Firmware 2.1.04 bugs
Re: Firmware 2.1.04 bugs
1. I have a NAS (Network Attached Storage Device (Hard Drive)) on my network and cannot browse the deep folder trees.
2. When I have a password on my NAS, it asks for the log in data. I give it the correct username/pass but brings me back to the same screen where it asks for the username/pass and is an endless loop.
3. When adding a song to a play list, then saving said play list, the Archos feels the need to do a complete shutdown and restart.
4. The lowest audio setting is still loud with in-ear earbuds.
5. The volume bar allows the volume to be lowered below where the audio output stops.
6. At the lowest audible audio setting, the balance feature does not work, and does not work well at normal volumes either.
7. At the lowest audible audio setting, switching to a preset EQ stops the audio output.
8. When browsing in a folder on my NAS that has many video files (*cough cough), it will only display about 30 thumbnails then displays a question mark for all the rest. If I click on one of the files that it does not display a thumbnail or a filename for, the player does a complete power off and restarts.
This is not really a bug but after a few generations of Archos devices, with multiple firmware updates, they should really be giving us (FOR FREE), audio decoding ability for atleast FLAC and Ogg.

Re: Firmware 2.1.04 bugs
Well my 160gb never had any problems until i upgraded the firmware. Now i have a ton of issues:
-suspend bug (as previously acknowledged)
-random crashes
-After a spell of disuse (e.g 1 week) unable to turn on unless hard reset
-battery seems to discharge now so that there will be no power at all (maybe this related to suspend bug)
-unit sometimes switches itself on (maybe related to above) in my bag and gets mega hot like the HD is being flogged
i wish i had kept it at factory FW...i had 0 issues with my unit (owned since release)

Old Bug:
Archos is eating last letters of the last line displayed from *.txt subtitles.
Very anoying - i don't have a time and willingness to convert each txt to srt!!!

Re: Firmware 2.1.04 bugs
1) My 605 restarts sometimes after unlocking the unit. This happens about 10% of the time. This has happened for past firmwares, but is persistent in 2.1.04 (current).
2) My 605 occasionally pauses while it buffers, and then when it comes back it stutters while playing the new buffer. Typically I need to pause and unpause to correct this issue. This issue has been persistent since previous firmwares also, but is still in the current firmware (2.1.04). This happens at random times, and I know it is buffering that happens because the HDD read light goes solid whenever this happens.
3) Occasionally my 605 fails to hug me at night, I become sad. This is a recent issue with the 2.1.04 firmware.
4) Sometimes the unit does not register a button press (on the side, not on the screen). Primarily the X or OK buttons. I am uncertain if this is firmware or hardware failure, but I do not press any harder when it does work.

Re: Firmware 2.1.04 bugs
Not really a bug, but more of a request. I bought my 605 for 3 things : video, music and reading (ebooks and comics). The first two things work fine, I watch video every night and also the musicquality is very nice.
But as the pdf-viewer is concerned, there are two major things that can be improved : it should preload a few pages because it takes more than 30 seconds to load the next page, and also, it needs a bookmark so you can continue reading on the page where you were when you shut down the player.
I thought I could mention this to Archos, but I cannot find a mailadress on their webpages. Don't know if the people from archusfans have contact with Archos.
Bye,
Gunther

Re: Firmware 2.1.04 bugs
I start playing a song, engage the lock and then switch off the 605 by holding down the power button ( put it to sleep, not a complete shutdown) try switching it back on again and it just comes up with a blank screen with no HDD activity. I have to perfrom a forcible shutdown and restart again for it to work. This happens at least twice a day when am on the train.
Re: Firmware 2.1.04 bugs
Hi all,
now that I have my brand new 605 (4GB) I was wondering if the bug I've encountered on my 405 will show up on the new one as well. And it did: No parental code protection of movies.
I wanted to protect some action movies (like "Lethal weapon" or similar) on this device so the kids can't see them. All movies are on a 16 GB SDHC, parental code is explicitly set to a number different from 0000, the files and even the folder have been set to be protected (I double-checked it).
The result is: My device keeps me showing all protected files even when child mode is set. CRAZY !!!!
Firmware is 2.1.04 (explicitly upgraded because on shipment the device was on a 1.3x - really
)
Obviously they have never tested this child mode feature.
OK, that's one thing not working, but the other side of the coin is: That device is pure fun !
So long,
Scotty

Re: Firmware 2.1.04 bugs (Reboots when creating playlist on 605)
This is a repeatable bug. At first, support told me to get my unit replaced, because they said it could be a hardware issue. The new unit does the exact same thing.
- Add files to a playlist
- Save it with a new name
- Add more files
- Save it, with "over write"
- Add more files
- Save with over write again
It takes 3 or 4 times and my system will reboot. Guaranteed. As a result, trying to create playlists on the Archos is a waste of time. Now, I have to create them WMP and sync. This defeats the entire purpose of having a device that should never need to be sync'd.
UPDATE: 11/11/08
I calling techical support in USA. After being on hold for nearly 1 hour yesterday, they would not acknowledge this as a bug. Rather they had me to a checkdisk on the Archos hard drive. This took quite some time to complete. I also did a defrag, just in case (since I have over 15,000 files on the Archos).
None of this solved the problem. Since then, I've been trying to reach technical support by phone, again. I've been on hold for hours, but have not got through yet.

Hi Guys,
I do also have a problem when docking my unit, the LCD screen stays open. I need to press the power button in order to close it. Not very good for the battery!

Re: Firmware 2.1.04 bugs
I installed the Web TV & Radio Plug-in today. With this plug-in, Archos has reignited my enchantment with the 605 WiFi, drawing me back yet again to dole out several more allotments of time and money.
Small bug to report while listening to a Web Radio station: When I click Menu, duplicate entries appear in the menu list as each is highlighted for hover, namely, "Info"/"Info", "Add to Favorites"/"Add to Favorites", "Sound"/"Settings". The Menu submenu item, "Settings" is not selectable.

Re: Firmware 2.1.04 bugs
When i want to watch photo's the 605 wifi 160 gb reboots. I deleted all the files and put them on again the same happens. I formatted the drive. Put different photo's back on and again the 605 reboots. Same problem with music. At random it reboots.
I use winxp sp3 and on the 605 i use usb port (pc harddisk) I update the arc library manual. but thatdoes not help. I have the latest version 2.1.0.4. Can somebody help me ?
I've send it back to archos france. I hope i get another one and not the same one "repaired". Or that they really fix this booting problem !!!!!

Re: Firmware 2.1.04 bugs
I also get random reboot when selecting and playing music. I can not repeat it on demand. But, if you look at my post a few back, I CAN repeat the reboot by creating a playlist and saving it. I am not an expert, but these random reboots appear to be coming from a weakness in the OS. Don't let them tell you it's a hardware problem. We all need to keep pushing on Archos about these reboot problems.p1ppo wrote:When i want to watch photo's the 605 wifi 160 gb reboots. I deleted all the files and put them on again the same happens. Re: Firmware 2.1.04 bugs
I consistently get this error about every 3rd time I turn on the 605 WiFi:
Recovery Code 102
System is damaged. Would yo like to recover it?
No
Repair
Format Disk
I tried the "repair" once and that had no effect. Reinstalled the OS. Still no change.
Don't want to "Format Disk". Not when I can select "No" and have it come up looking normal...
Also had errors on the 16Gb SDHC.. Couldn't see the card via USB to my WinXP Sp2 desktop at work. My Vista machine at home could read the card directly, but couldn't delete the files on it.. I would select all, delete them and they would APPEAR to be gone, but the next time I powered the Archos up and looked in the video/(rec) folder some or all would still be there..
I DID format that card yesterday, and things seem to be normal again.... We'll see as time goes on..

Re: Firmware 2.1.04 bugs
Hi,
I have also some of the above bugs with my 605 WiFi 160Gb
- Web-Browser is hanging during browsing
- Half or full of the Web-Browser screen remains black
- Web-Browsing is heavily slower than on a netbook at the same accesspoint
- Shutdown is not working everytime properly
- Restart during browsing
- With low battery and USB-charger connected I had reboots, can`t use Archos for at least 30min
- Can't log-in to my wordpress blog, entering log-in data is working in an endless loop but not loggin process itself, very bad, I wanted to use this in vacation. Sth. similar with another webpage is also described in this thread
Hope this helps, waiting for an update...

Re: Firmware 2.1.04 bugs
this is normal, because the player needs more juice than the usb charger can offer.steffi wrote: - With low battery and USB-charger connected I had reboots, can`t use Archos for at least 30min
i found a problem with ac3 audio playback (only playable through explorer view because the player wont recognise ac3 as audio/video format in player mode) on battery: if screen goes blank it takes some seconds and playback begins to stutter. i think the device slows down the cpu to save power.

Re: Firmware 2.1.04 bugs
Hi folks, not been in the Forum for a while, so I hadn't noticed this thread (I didn't even know we were up to firmware 2.x.xx
). I noticed one bug that almost everyone is mentioning is the 'suspend' issue, where the device says it is suspending, screen goes black, but the LED stays green. I thought I would mention that I have this annoying inconvenience, and have done for some time, BUT I am still on 1.8.05. It doesn't happen every time, but when it does happen, it is usually (maybe invariably) after I have been browsing the web.
So, maybe a firmware bug, but not necessarily specific to 2.1.04?

Pete.
Re: Firmware 2.1.04 bugs
I don't know if this bug is particular to 2.1.04, because I only recently installed the Web Radio plugin.
When listening to a Web Radio station, if the wireless network signal drops out, then there is no way to exit the Web Radio application. The 605 WiFi alternates between offering to search for a wireless network, or else bumping back into the containing folder of that particular Web Radio station. Trying to close that folder bumps back in to the wireless search mode. There is no graceful exit if the wireless connection cannot be reestablished; in this case, the unit has to be rebooted to get out of the loop.

Re: Firmware 2.1.04 bugs
605 30GB Wifi (with all available plug-ins and GPS) used in Hard Drive mode, I've got some work arounds but obviously a proper fix would be better. Think this as my 12 Bugs of Christmas
1# Random Crashing that is only fixed by performing a ARClib update.
2# After finishing File server and allowing the ARClib to update (automaticly) some files will report that they are corrupted and are unable to play, a repeated manual ARClib update fixes this.
3# Some flash videos on websites periodicly work or do not work, the archos reports that there is a problem with the source.
4# The Archos cannot determine the difference between routers with hidden SSIDs. I have two Linksys WAG200G with Hidden SSIDs one set to channel 1 and one set to channel 11 (obviously both have different macs), the Archos will only ever show of these networks. If I manage to log into one of them and I disconnect, when I decide to reconnect the Archos will some times try to connect to the second router with the same details.
5# When connecting a USB cable between the Archos TV record dock and my computer (or xbox 360 ect) the archos automaticly switches over to usb mode, it used to ask me wether I wanted USB or charge only.
6# My archos often displays the wrong album artwork for songs, where as programmes such as itunes and windows media player will display the correct art work for the song.
7# When turning on or off the Archos will display the green (powered on) light, however the screen will remain black and the device will be unresponsive, only fixed by hitting the reset or holding down the power button for 15 seconds (shuts it off).
8# The GPS software randomly crashes sometimes, incredibly annoying when your in a place you don't know and you can't pull over.
9# When connecting the Archos to the GPS dock while powered on the Archos will crash and either complete lock up or return to the start up splash screen.
10# Internet Radio connections often fail to connect or the archos reports the problems with the source.
11# Websites sometimes load as a black screen and require the device to be restarted completely.
12# TV recorder EPG cannot find infomation for FreeSat channels (not really a bug, but as annoying as one).

Not a bug as such, but I wish they would update the Opera browser to the latest version, can't read my hotmail emails since microsoft rejigged hotmail.
