WEP and the 704 WIFI - g-z characters?
Delboy
tried that awhile back but no luck ?
could not connect to the network
so I see there is another firmware update from Archos 1.7.53 downloaded and installed to see would it make any differents
you are not going to believe this it now works .....
I just convert the ASCII to hex and connect up no problem
so obviously something was fixed with the wireless in this release
Thanks for the tip (I was just about to get rid of it)

Re: WEP and the 704 WIFI - g-z characters?
I suppose you guys have sorted this out by now but here's a solution. Type any 13 digit ascii WEP key into this website
http://centricle.com/tools/ascii-hex/
Hit translate and it will spit out a 26 digit hex key which you can use in you 704. Have fun typing that monstrosity of a code in on the touch screen. It is an annoyance that Archos didn't provide an ascii translator on the 04s. Good news is, you only have to type it in once for each network you get on regularly.

Thanks Mabtec
been using the 704 wifi now for some time and no more problems connecting to my router
I really think the problems were with the old firmware but since I upgraded to the 1.7.53 I had no problem to date and sussed out the binary code
its a pity though Opera browser is limited with no plugins available for activeX ...so no youtube etc.
thanks again for replying
