How about an Off-Line Wikipedia Widget?

Wikipedia's content is available for download (less than 4GB) and off-line browsing:

A good widget would provide not only search features (and text hyperlinks enabled), but also display the on-line Wikipedia looks.

I tried extracting it with 7zip, but didn't work. Are there any special enstructions?

I'm also kind of interested in the possibility of running an offline version of wikipedia. I see that the text only version noted earlier is 4 GB once extracted.

Does anyone have a figure for what size the text + image version is (english language)?

Short answer: Unzip and Browse

Longer answer: qood question... what I did was unzip to \data\wiki
on the archos, then use the file browser to open the \data\wiki\index.htm file each time I want to use it...
But another option would be to unzip the file to \info on the archos
then it might be accessible from the Info button on the main menu

they're probably not going to work since the archos is on a FAT file system which has a 2gb file size limit, meaning you can't transfer files larger than 2gb, you said it's less than 4gb so i'm assuming it's larger than 3gb meaning you can't transfer it.

the compressed archive is around 4GB, but it contains thousands of html-files and images and needs to be extracted to the archos before you can browse it, so the file size is not a problem

in that case since it's just a whole lot of .html files then you should easily be able to do it, it actually should work natively you would just use the file manager to open the index.html and it'll open in opera. however you'll need to extract all the files on your pc then transfer them because zipped/compressed will still count as one file, I'll look into it and test it out. I'll get back to you on it.

What sites are there that are like wikipedia? I am in the process of writing an article about a local author in my area. However, according to wikipedia's guidelines, the article will be deleted since she is not a famous author like Stephen King.
