Thanks! It was actually easier than I thought. Once the SDE is installed you have a boot loader that will allow the older firmware versions. Held the down volume when powering up to get into boot loader/recovery, format drive, copy old firmware, reboot and done.

Restore very old firmware?
I finally managed to get the SDE installed so that I can go back to a very early firmware on my 43it, now I can't find the directions. I know it was posted in several of the firmware upgrade threads but my keywords keep failing me so if anyone would be willing to point the way I would be grateful ...

I'll have to try it again and see if I missed a detail to install it.

Re: Problem installing SDE
Checked it last night by downloading it again from Archos, says it is somewhere around 65mb which is smaller than the normal firmware for the a43. The SDE choices are gen8, and two of the older machines, I of course chose the gen8 version. I'm wondering if one of the firmware updates broke the ...

Problem installing SDE
OK, so I am trying to install the SDE so I can flash back to a much earlier version firmware... All it will give is an error when I try to make it update through the recovery mode. Downloaded it a second time thinking I may have had a glitch but the same error. Any suggestions on what I can do to ...

Re: With a 1GHz processor, why does my Archos seem so slow?
Greg how can I check if my GPU was been damaged by FW ?
I wish I knew. You can try going back to x.x.19 and see if the performance picks back up, if it is still slow then it's probably screwed. There were some reports of Archos exchanging a few devices that got really slow after one of the ...

Re: Competition for G10 is already being announced
Looks nice and will probably sell like crazy in China, they need to market more in the USA though since they can be difficult to find over here, you won't walk into a BestBuy and pick one off the shelf.
That said, I'm still happy enough with my Acer a500 so it will be a while before I go looking ...

Re: With a 1GHz processor, why does my Archos seem so slow?
What firmware are you running? Any of the versions with the GPU overclock make my 43 run really slow too, getting ready to install the SDK and then go back to 2071 and see if there was permanent damage done. Samsung will be the next device if this one falls farther down. Certainly didn't last as ...

Re: Best firmware?
They are not the same for me either, once they put in the code to overclock the GPU mine started to have real problems getting bogged down. Also things like media playing changed through out the updates, early it would have a small gap between songs, later it would chop off the end of a song as it ...

If I type:

Re: Archos 43 User experience poor due to touchscreen behavi
I will say that when my 43it was new is was pretty decent... As newer better firmwares came out I was less satisfied with it. I think I need to research the way back to 2.0.71 when I was happy and see if there has been any permanent damage to the hardware from the gpu overclocking. A Samsung might ...

Hmmm... might have to drop some files on an SD (micro?) card or maybe take my windows tablet to a bestbuy and give it a try. I bet they work.

Took two weeks the last time I contacted them, that was before the took over their support and it supposedly got better. Sounds like same old garbage of you bought the device, now go jump.

Did you happen to "upgrade" to the latest firmware in the last 48 hours? Mine is feeling pretty sick after I did that this weekend.

Re: Firmware 2.4.81 released - report bugs here
Well upgrading to this on my 43 was definitely a mistake... Now when playing audio out to my bluetooth receiver has pauses and glitches that were not there on Friday before the update. Switched to me Acer a500 to finish the work that I was doing so I could have music. I really do not know what they ...

Turned mine on today after not using it for weeks, damn this thing is slow, wondering if my GPU got wrecked with the overclock in the newer firmwares.

Re: Firmware 0.0.00?
I would download it, and when it reboots to install it I would hold down the volume and boot into recovery mode, connect to USB and copy it off to my computer, then maybe think about applying it. I'll fire mine up in a while and see if I get a notice.
