I agree with JTC. I believe it is a hardware failure and permanent damage to the USB port.

I had my unit for a few weeks around Christmas and loved it until this issue.

The last time I can recall mine working was when I plugged my iPod touch into it and it recognized it as a camera. That would be perfectly normal in my opinion.

Why is the Archos warranty so limited if you buy it direct?

Try giving the 101 a static IP and routing DNS through the router as well.
