This is a Gen 6 non-Android A7 IMT, not the A70IT talked about in this forum. That is way too much money for a almost 3 year old device, IMHO.

I don't know what you're doing wrong, I've used the arctools on three different devices (2 101s and my 32) and they all upgraded to the newest market automatically. I have the gapps4archos final version on my 70 and it has upgraded by itself also.

I use Magic DVD ripper with the AVI 5.1 profile, MPEG4 codec, 1200kbit/s V and 256 kbit/s A. Looks great on my 70, and OK on video out to TV.
I bought the codec pack right after I got my 70, so I don't have any problems playing any videos.

There is also the gapps4archos v5 way. I've learned the arctools is much easier and nets the same results now.
