Re: Acer iconia a100

Thanks Diknak!

Nice to know web browsing is much smoother on the A100 than the Gen8s. Now how does the Gen9 do Butterfly Girl?

Re: Acer iconia a100

I love my W500. I don't use it much for reading because it is so heavy, but I probably won't be buying another 10" tablet that isn't Wndows based. Hi Butterfly Girl and everyone, I also have the W500 and the Asus EP121. I use my W500 a lot for Kindle reading in fullscreen, 2-up landscape. I use it ...

Re: Firmware 2.4.19 released - report bugs here

I am very tempted to downgrade to earlier firmware until a better firmware comes out. I didn't have any problem at first and used the latest fw for a few months. i did suspect that the screen wasn't as responsive as before but it was usable. I have not installed too many programs and i don't know i...

These last two reports from Bouldergeek and Greg_e put the final stopper for me. I'm staying at 2.1.8

Re: Acer Iconia A100 for $329, but has 512MB ram

Glad you got the Netflix app working. Maybe Acer will do it in a firmware release, but the tablet was already 5 months late, so i imagine they were trying to get it out as soon as possible. I have to say that the overall experience is much better on the Acer than on the Archos. Hi Diknak, Glad to h...

Re: Acer Iconia A100 for $329, but has 512MB ram

I fully agree Allen, the thing I don't understand is the inability of Google to somehow control or unify the situation. As in the case of Netflix not working on the Acer even though it has absolutely no problem running the app. I assume it is a certification process and someone has to sign of on th...

Re: Acer Iconia A100 for $329, but has 512MB ram

Hi xfirex, Interesting take on Acer fixing it. I've got an Acer W500 and a number of owners have reported very poor customer support from Acer. Now, Acer is a much bigger company than Archos which might imply that they would have better customer support. However, at this time, products like the W500...

Re: Firmware 2.4.19 released - report bugs here

I think it's fine that people report their experiences when applying an update over the top of an existing setup. After all, why make work for yourself by reformatting your device, and having to reinstall all your apps, music etc, if you don't have to? But I also think that, before "reporting" issu...

Re: Lenovo (IBM) Thinkpad & Ideapad Tablets

Allen, If I had to choose between Android tablet and Win7 tablet, I would definitely choose the Win7 tablet. I'm not quite ready to ditch my Archos tablets yet, however, I'm not sure I'm going to try to get a Honeycomb tablet, either. BTW, I think you were a fabulous moderator. Thank you Butterfly ...

Re: Lenovo (IBM) Thinkpad & Ideapad Tablets

Based on the enthusiasm here, I worked on making more use of my 10" Sino win7 tablet. I did find it would sleep w/o much battery drain and thus speed up wakeups. I found it good for reading html magazines which need a big screen w/o reflow due to their structured layout. The eyestrain from bad scre...

Re: Lenovo (IBM) Thinkpad & Ideapad Tablets

Thanks for the reply, Butterfly Girl... Interesting that you say "casual non-flash web surfing" for your Gen8s. Browser instability via busy web pages and the instability of Flash web videos on my Gen8s is what finally turned me off to the Gen8s. I don't see any improvement for the Gen9s compared to...

Re: Lenovo (IBM) Thinkpad & Ideapad Tablets

Aloha Butterfly Girl, I've still got my A70S, A101, and my A5IT. My W500 came with the keyboard dock. After installing Tunein Radio Pro on my 5IT, I'm not using the Gen8s at all. I'm using the W500 for Kindle and Tunein works from their Web site so I could use it on the W500. My question for you: Wh...

Re: Acer Iconia A100 for $329, but has 512MB ram

$328 from Walmart with 5MP back camera, 2MP front camera, and Android 3.2 - sounds like stiff competition for the Gen9s and blows the A70S out of the water...

Aloha viking and GeoD, For GeoD: Bernie Hester's reviewed the Acer Iconia W500 at Amazon USA. Part of his job is to review Windows tablets for his company. He rated 7 Win7 tablets. Here's a link to his review and the comments: Click here . The link starts at the comments, so scroll up for his review...

Re: Lenovo (IBM) Thinkpad & Ideapad Tablets

I'd like to address what Harfainx said about Win7 not being very touch friendly. As you can see in my Sig I currently own the Archos 70S and 101-16. I also own the 10.1 inch Acer W500/2/32/32-6 and the 12.1 inch Asus EP121/4/64/64-4 slates. Both of these slates run Windows 7HP. Additionally, I owned...

Re: VMWare on Android (Honeycomb)

So, Harfainx, does VMWare View work with VMWare VMs running on a PC as well as VMs running in a cloud?

What I read at VMWare's web site indicitated that VMWare View was for cloud VMs only.

Thanks,

Allen

Re: VMWare on Android (Honeycomb)

Aloha Harfainx, I used VMWare professionally, and personally, beginning with the Beta version of their software in the late 1990s. The initial version created virtual machines within the Windows or Linux OSes. VMWare View, as described, is not like VNC or RDP apps which have been available in Androi...

Re: Lol Its happening again :)

Aloha Allen, I was wondering why I haven't seen you posting much anymore. Now I know. I have two quick questions about the Acer and ASUS. How is the battery life and how is the touch experience with Windows 7? I read early on that Windows 7 wasn't the best "touch" OS. Is that still the case? BTW, I...

Re: Lol Its happening again :)

I've been with Archos in Gen 1, Gen 6, 7, and 8, plus the 7HT. I totally agree with every Farsquidge has said. I resigned as a moderator because I no longer believed in Archos after my experience with my 70S and A101-16. I'm still on 2.1.08 because of all the problems I saw with the two later FWs. T...
