I think your problem might be that you are in "child mode." When in this mode you cannot copy files from your archos or vice versa to a external HDD. Go to parental control and put it in Adult mode. Hope that helps.

is 2.0.10 more stable than the latest firmware? I've found that with the latest firmware the Archos freezes all the time. this gets very annoying ...when I was djing a party and it kept freezing when I was adding songs to a playlist while playing music.

I don't think you need to worry about viruses on your 605. Fist of all its a linux device, and second of all its hardware architecture is different from a pc or laptop. To my knowledge no one has spent time writing a virus tailored to the 605... =D

I accessed the French Archos store and looked at the prices. With the current crappy American $$$ exchange rate the 60 gig cost aprox. $515 (google). Are they going to price the new Archos lower for US citizens?

I thought this player was pretty slick until I found out that that HUGE array of buttons on the top of the player is pretty useless. When attempting to use the IM client, you need to use a couple of the buttons as scroll keys to hit letters on an on-screen keyboard. They should have just matched up ...

What??? :shock: Where did you read this? It makes no sense to me.

I have this effect too. Everything I've read says it's light refracted by the layers that create the touch screen. Some people have complained to Archos about it, but I haven't noticed any ill effects.

If you really want something other than what is included in the archos firmware, you should just go out and buy an Eee PC. You can install and hack to your hearts desire on one of those.
