I did not remove the linkbucks link because it was a revenue generation link ... i removed it because links like that look like spam to general users... secondly such redirection services can often have advertisement pages that have viruses etc.

Vga is actually the same as component internally (RGB), both are analog connections.

I have 2 of these VGA to component adapters and they work great.

Ickster .. no carrier "allows" tethering without an extra fee. But that doesn't mean you cannot do it. I have been using tethering with At&t since December 09 and it works very well. You might have to remove the DUN lock that metropcs has put on your device. A simple google search gave me this ...

Well a cheap solution would be to get a component to VGA adapter or cable.... but you will only get 480p ...

do what dm8tbr says .. let it charge for 24 hrs ... if it doesn't wake up after that return it.

This can happen if the battery was low and you had put it in standby (screen off, system on, green light on) and some process was preventing it from shutting down.

Update the firmware
download it from the following link

There is no information available regarding that.
But there is a very high chance that the accessories will be compatible.
I dont see why Archos will release the HDMI dock now if it wasn't compatible with Gen8 .. since the Gen8 is just 3 months away.

Hey .. so the HDMI dock has been released in the US for $69.99 + $6 (ground shipping) = $75.99

I think it is too expensive.
The DVR station is selling for $103 at Amazon with FS (and you can find refurb ones for under $65) and it does much more than the HDMI dock.
