Looks like the current (4G) DVR. From what google's transcribed, the new DVR (aka ArchosTV More!) will have HDMI, RGB, USB, Ethernet, and a built in HDD (ranging from 80-250GB for 220-300Ôé¼).

You'll need the the archos or creative vision m av lead to have the proper playback, you won't have stereo output otherwise. You could swap some of the wires around on one of your current leads (since you have three xD) to make it work when plugged all the way in.

.mkv support - the Cowon A3 is having it, why not the 04 series?

Most h.264 video files I see are in .mkv, and it's a bother to transcode whole seasons into .avi on my weedy 1.8ghz athlon.

You could compress the resultant ripped dvd-video files to around 700MB and it'll still look as good as the original (on the 4.3" screen). This might take longer, especially with a slow cpu, but you'll end up with more free space for mp3s etc.

I think every person here would recommend you to rip your dvds onto your computer. Not only does it provide a superior video/audio quality, more compression options and removes any sort of copy protection, it takes less than half the time than recording through the DVR Station (as little as 15 ...

I don't think the AV700 can play .mp4 files at all, as it's an unsupported format. Your only option is to transcode your rips into an .avi container.
Only Archos' *04 series can playback .mp4, but I think you need the video podcast plug-in as well.

It's unofficial, so with those things you always run the risk of damaging your Archos' battery. And at that price you might as well cough up the money for the docking adapter, which includes the power adapter charger.

I think GMC and QPEL encoded files increase the load on the cpu, so I'm not sure if the Archos' are powerful enough to playback videos with them or causes a significant battery drain (must be a reason to why they don't let you play them).

I have a feeling our comments/suggestions would have more ...

I get a hiss on mine. I'm used to the sound though, as my laptop has the same resonance. I just assume it's normal for such a device, otherwise I'd think my headphones didn't work when I plug them in sans playback.

1) If you buy the 04 series DVR Station from the UK, it will have a composite/component -> SCART cable (for output in this case), and a composite -> composite cable with a SCART adapter to plug into the device you want to record from (Sky, Freeview etc).

2) It has the same pixel resolution as the ...

If labelled correctly, you can play file #3 and it'll move onto #4 then #5 and so on. Therefore skipping the beginning .vobs without playing them.

The Wi-Fi streaming has improved for me. Before video files would stutter every few seconds, which I thought was solely down to my router (Netgear DG834Gv2). Now it plays really smoothly, and going through my networked devices seems quicker as well.

The EXIF orientation would be useful as I prefer ...
