I tried accessing my home media over wifi using orb.com, as a recent thread mentioned that it works w/ the 605. Well, i have to say, yes, it does work... but there's a bad catch. Read on...
Tips on getting it to work (if you want to try this):
When you log on the first time on the 605, go to Setup > Skin, and change the interface to "mobile". The interface simplifies so it's very fast on the 605. It's unusably slow otherwise. Then make sure the video is set to play with Flash. It works great!!!
The catch:
It does work great, but it really screwed up the 605 which i only realized much later. After using Orb, i was unable to browse my PC media (UPnP) w/ wifi. When i try to go in, i get my Orb media... the same stuff that you get in Orb.com. It seems to just be another way to get your PC media. But still, i'd rather not have it go through ORB when i don't need it to.
Even worse, i can't browse my shared PC folders in the File browser. The shared stuff doesn't even show up at all.
In a nutshell, ORB replaced my normal network on the 605.
The only way i found to fix this was to Reset the 605 to factory defaults. So it's now fixed.
If anyone's brave enough to try this themselves, i'd like to know if you had the same problem!...

So in a nutshell, i'm not sure if it's dynamic or static. I read recently that most "homes" are static, so if i had to guess, i'd say Static.
A little background: I was never able to Ping my home pc from a remote location. I also was never successful using Remoting software like "Radmin". I also couldn't get Orb's competitor, TVersity to work from a remote PC. All these things, i think, don't work because of the same problem. And at the root of it, i'm guessing is a dynamic vs static IP issue.
Any suggestions?

I don't know actually if it's a static vs dynamic IP issue. I'd guess you are using dynamic IP if you haven't at any point assigned an IP for each device connected to your router and especially if you haven't logged into your router and set it up for static. I think most local networks actually use dynamic IP setups, and yes I also think it is very confusing and I hope that IPv6 will make things as easy as just connecting any device and it'll just work no matter what.
But anyways, I guess Orb might be hi-jacking the Samba/Upnp connection on a Windows computer, so have you checked the configuration of Orb? I would guess it doesn't need to take other then HTTP hosting on a specified Orb port, and leave it to Windows Media Player 11 to do the Upnp and to the normal Windows OS to do the Samba filesharing.
Anyways, I haven't used Orb, so I don't know exactly how it works, I'm just trying to guess what might be your issue.

I checked the settings/config in Orb and there doesn't seem to be anything of importance relating to my problem. But there are some advanced settings in WMP 11, that deal w/ http, etc. But i don't feel like putting my 605 through that again just so i can experiment w/ different WMP 11 settings. But i would if i knew for sure that a certain setting would solve the problem.

In fact it's the opposite.
Dynamic IPs are the norm. You have to pay a ridiculously high exorbitant amount extra for Static IPs.

Before, all i got was the Orb network. Now both. The only thing that i can imagine would do this is, is that i installed the latest firmware, released today. (v.1.3.08)
This is great! I can access my home media easily through any wifi, without having to log into orb.com. I think i'll use it when i'm at home too, because when i access my home media the normal way i get "errors", as i mentioned in a different thread.

Final update:
In our last episode, i said my home network and the Orb network were listed under the Upnp (in the Video module). Well, as it turns out, that only happens when i'm on my home wifi network.
I finally tested it on a public wifi away from home, and nothing shows up under Upnp. So the only way to get home content is to log in to the mycast.orb.com site. I did that, and my home video streamed nicely.
Then when i got home, my home network and the orb network again showed up under Upnp. So using Orb did not mess up my 605 like it did originally. Maybe the newest firmware fixed that issue.
So to summarize, to use Orb, on the very first use, you need to change the display for "mobile devices", so it loads quickly on the 605. Go to settings > Skin and check that option. Then change the default video stream format to be Flash. It's NOT by default, and you cannot view videos without changing it to Flash.

I'm pretty sure he means 3 locations as in ip addresses, not email addresses. each computer you have at a different location (home, work, coffee shop) has a different ip (most likely).
I'm actually looking forward to using orb. I use it constantly on my ppc sprint 6700 to stream movies, watch live tv. now i'll be able to watch live tv on the archos at a higher resolution!
its a shame u can't record "live" streams on the 605 over wifi... and I doubt u can download them either (due to buffer size). it would be nice if there was an option to allocate a certain amount of space per .flv so that if u were "watching" a live stream, it could download and save it up to 500mb, then if it went over the 500mb, it could start a new file, much like those dvd rippers split Dvds into 1gb .vobs, etc.
ps will the 605 play files larger than 2gb? I know the 504 had and still does have this problem

Well, I was able to get orb to work, with a few caveats.

Mobile setting on the Orb means it's played through Flash, correct?
If so, I think the multiple tapping problem is due to a problem with the player recognizing the OnPress method of flash. I've been trying to deal with the same thing with the flash apps I've been making. It sometimes likes it, sometimes doesn't. It's very bizarre.
