tablet not USB recognized by PC on windows XP

Post by frapal »

Hello

I flashed my home tablet 7 v2 with one of the roms here (the one that says My way instead of Your way). Everything was alright until last week when my tablet is not USB recognised by my acer laptop running on XP.
I tried everything in the site, lock+reset+connecting USB. Nothing except sometimes the PC says device not recognized, i then try to provide the driver manually from W9_0.18.20101201.214043\Driver\281xDriver\x86\xp which i downloaded, but it says it cannot use this file :-(

I am stuck. Please help.

Thanks

Try this. Go to this site: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html and download USBDeview to the PC. Once installed, run it and delete any lines which refer to the Archos device. Connect the Archos and see if the drivers automatically install. This worked for me.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately i had tried that already with no success.
I deleted all references but nothing happens when i connect around 90 pc of time and other 10 pc it says device not recognized.
I would like to avoid to buy a microsd card to transfer my media files :-(

In that case I assume you are running the Cyanogenmod gingerbread rom. All Cyanogenmod GB roms have usb problems.
The only thing you can do is to indeed copy stuff to an SDcard.
Another options is to use cifs, connect to a network share and copy the media files from there.
The best thing though is to go back to froyo (or eclair) if you regularly change/load media files.

If you want to see computer on Archos: Enable file sharing on your pc system, and with ES file explorer you can move/copy files to/from your Archos: in ES select LAN and scan for new server, you will see your computer.
Or if you want to see Archos on your computer: Maybe your computer will find Archos on the network, but mine doesn't, i had to install Android Commander (http://androidcommander.com/) and with that program you can see even the Archos system files via wifi.

Google next time: cifs is the follow up of samba which is the unix side of window network sharing

I wrote a couple of scripts that do mount a network share of your choice which means that you can use any file explorer.
One script to mount/couple a windows/samba/cifs network share on a folder on your sdcard. Then you can access that network folder like it is a local file folder.
The other scripts to unmount/uncouple the network share and two others to do some more less important stuff.
The scripts are self explanatory (at least that is what I think :) )
I will pack them with my next rom.

That would be great! I can't install adb usb driver to my laptop so wifi file sharing is a great alternative.

It's not related here, but is there any ROM to the v2 which Skyfire can be used on? Or is there any other browser that can play embedded mp4s? Thank you! Marry Christmas!

I agree the best thing is to return to the original OS.
But since the tablet is not recognized, i cant copy the update.img file
I tried to copy the .img file from the pc my sd card and insert it back into the tabket but i couldnt move the file to the root folder of the tablet.
I am getting frustrated.
Thanks for your help
