I have followed the above steps verbatim, and the Market app dopes run, and I can browse apps, but the app just sticks at 'Starting Download' regardless of what app I choose. In fact, after running market for the first time, and signing in, I get a non-stop loop error message of "Sorry! The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly, please try again" with a Force Close button. It simply repeats when I tap Force Close

This error will repeat even after rebooting the unit.

Also, Google Maps does not show up in the 'My Apps' folder of InstallLib using the above procedure.

Hopefully the error can help someone figure out what is happening (its easy to missed running Market as it will appear quickly then get forced behind the Market app window where you don't notice it.

First want to say thanks for everyones help in this forum, it was obvious the Archos7 could be far better than it was, and there is some great work it seems going to fix this unofficially.

However i have the same probalem as above, non-stop loop error message meant i couldnt do anything so I just reset my archos7 and did steps 1 to 3 again and am waiting to hear what we both did wrong or how to fix the error.

Hi,

You need to connect to the tablet via adb and type setrecovery --reboot --wipe_all, or reflash using rkandroid. You will lose all data not on the sdcard. I don't know what that happens, or things similar to that with google maps.

Cheers!

Basically what you want to happen is a wipe of the writeable part of the system partition, followed by copying the usual android files over, you are trying to get rid of all the google files copied over to /system/app etc. rm -r /.android/* something like that. There is a file in /data that should be detected as missing once data is formatted to trigger the system files being copied over to /.android.

You need to reformat the flash partition.

Are you using Windows? What do you see in My Computer when you plug in the USB cable?

7. Install GoogleContactProvider.apk from within SirDoms FW and reboot once more.
8. Install Contact.apk from within SirDoms FW to make contacts sync work and reboot once more.
(takes some time sync is ready)
9. Install appslib to fix the Google Maps.
10. Run appslib, in appslib goto "my apps" , there you will see Maps as installed and you will be able to update it.
i don't have sirdoms FW so i can't install 7\\8
and also when i turn on my archos it shows an error with google maps and i can't resolve it!

help me :)

"You need to reformat the flash partition."

Ok, so when I plug my tablet into the PC ala USB, a new 'drive' is mounted. So I have to format the tablet's flash memory via the PC, then re-flash using RKAndroid, and then re-run the directions above and then Google Market will work?

Just trying to fill in the blanks here.

Thanks

Yes or use adb with the provided command line.
However i've done this and all other possible processes multiple times as well but get different errors.
Market doesn't work, haven't tried market 2.6 as it wont let me download it on my A7HT (could not dwnload invalid mib... something).
Same goes for instalation of apps above 4/5MB.
I'm so dissapointed in this device as 1 of the 2 local shops had the v2 rk1218 800mhz, 2.1 Eclair And to my suprise at the shop 'store web shop' only.
As impatiant as i was i tried the other electronics shop a found one in store there.
Only to find out at home that it was the first one And not the revisited a7HT 8GB.
Thats basically my reason i started to jailbraik my archos with doms, the 2.1 beta3, May's rom (didnt load) And himselfs v0.27 (1st time.. boot logo hangup) custom fw's.
And don't get me wrong. I appreciate all the work here and so forth, i just have a bad experience with this thing and i don't own a pc atm so this and my htc is the most i can get out of the interwebs.
Returning to the store wouln't help as its used now though 1 week old... wont take refund anyway, stupid Netherlands heh....

Installed YAR yesterday. Thought I bricked it, brought out RKAndroid and installed YAR correctly. Didn't realize I needed to reformat the drive, so I was really crapping my pants over that until I figured it out. Got the drive formatted and Market installed.

Market works until you try to download something. It just says Starting Download and never gets anywhere. I've tried clearing out all the caches, rebooting, resetting the device, nothing works. I've attempted to install 0.26 market over this one and it doesn't help. I tried to go back to the earliest version of the market apk, and that one doesn't even want to install the "Market Installer."

Reading the previous posts, I see that I haven't taken these steps:
Well, I can't find Contact.apk or GoogleContactProvider.apk... would running these fix the problem? Could someone maybe provide a direct link if it will help?

Thanks

EDIT: I have found SirDoms FW. Will report back with results.

EDIT 2: Installed the APKs. GoogleContactProvider caused the unit to reboot. Assuming it was successful. Marketplace is still just spinning its wheels. A couple notes: maps wasn't installed in this firmware. Also, appslib gets a network error now every time.

EDIT3: Something worked. I cleared out every piece of cache I found in my apps settings and rebooted. Works like a dream now.

Well done that you found a solution to your issues.

May I ask (in name of all those that are strugling with the same issues and the 26 pages of posts) that you describe what you had to do to make it work for you. Maybe the instructions can be perfected and/or others that run in the same issue can try if it works for them as well. Just saying 'it works now' is a indication it will/might cost you a lot of time, but might be solvable...

Tnx in advance...

Hello, i've installed this firmware according the instructions. But now my archos won't start anymore. It's stuck on the "new" boot screen for about 1 1/2 hrs now....

Any suggestions? Is there a way to hard reset the archos??

Many thanks in advance...

Sure, there is a hard-reset possibility.

you need sothing like a needle or paperclip. there is a tiny opening in the back of your acros 7 in the area, where the inscriptions are. there you have to stick in the paperclip and hold the putton pressed for about 10 seconds.

I guess you have forgotten to reset your device BEFORE you flashed it. It VERY importatnt, that you, before flashing it, you reset your device.

HOW TO FLASH YOUR ARCHOS 7 CORRECTLY:

1. Push the trigger to the left. Select Shutdown to switsch of your device.

2. Pull the trigger comletely to the right to lock your archos.

3. RESET your device !! (this important step is missing in the Wiki-Instructions. Could someone please add it - I dont't know how)

4. Connect your device with the PC

5. Install the appropriate Driver in the RKAndroid package. If you are using win64 it might work, but better use a 32-bit system (Win XP)

6. start RKAndroid.exe and hope, that it sees your Device (text:" RKLoader device found")

7. Now select the Image ( .img ) file as "new firmware information"

8. Press RESTORE !! (Do NOT press UPDATE).

9. Anwer the next question with "YES" and WAIT........

10. When the Box "Finished" appers, choose OK and than EXIT.

11. Unplug your device and start it (push Trigger to the left and hol it there for a while)

12. Now wait, because the system is partitioning and formating. It can take up to 10 Minutes.

13. When everything is running, plug in your archos and select "Mount"(*) on the screen
(*) don't know what it is called in english, mine is german, but it should be something like "mount"
14. Wait, it can take some time until your windows recognizes your new enhanced archos.
15. If your run win7-64bit, there will be an new "archos 7" device asking for a driver. Unfortunately, there is
no 64-bit driver for this device. But it's not so important either.
14. Format your archos internal memory (not your SD-Card) as "Fat 32". Please no quickformat!

-----
If you want market, than it depends on the Firmware you flash.
When you flash: SamJr YAR Version 0.27

1. FIRST, before everything else:
------> Set-Up WiFi

2. Install Market.apk from within HIMSELFs 0.15 FW (this one has alle the google apps in it)
3. Run the "market install" program from the application screen

reboot the unit.

4. Install GoogleContactProvider.apk from within SirDoms (http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=34668)

reboot once more.

5. Install Contact.apk from within SirDoms FW (link above) to make contacts sync work and

reboot once more.

6. THERE IS NO WAY TO FIX Google Maps. Whenever you start the device, there is a error-message, that googlemaps has crashed.
Nobody seemd to be able to fix this problem.

There was a "solution", which you can find in the forum:

" Install appslib to fix the Google Maps.
10. Run appslib, in appslib goto "my apps" , there you will see Maps as installed and you will be able to update it."

but this does not work, maybe it did, but not anymore.

These 10 steps were the steps i scraped from the various topics and put them together in one summary. This has worked for me, all google apps work including Maps with the update from appslib.
Appslib does not work at the moment so i cannot check if the update for maps is still there.

The working Maps (from the update) i saved to my sd and uploaded to Mediafire, you could try if this works for you too.
