maybe add an option to split the file into 2 parts if its over 4gb big? that would really come in handy

any chance at just an update of the script rather than re-downloading the whole file? if thats the only thing thats changed?

could you add it so that you can add a directory for it to be created in. ie it will create the files in the G:\videos folder which could be the mounted memory card.
This could save time in having to transfer the files over afterwards.

Ie transcoding the audio to mp3 and splitting the video would take not much longer than having to copy the file over to start with.

maybe as a config file entry like "destinationdir="

not tried this archos splitter? is it software or is it done "automatically" as charbox aluded to a few weeks ago .. is it a 2.2 thing? (not going to upgrade to that garbage til they've sorted)

I was kind of hoping the archos player would just see the two files named something like film(1).mkv and film(2).mkv and play them one after the other.. that would have been the simpler/much more compatible way of doing it.

yeah i was doubtful of the fact it was automatic. unless they did something fancy with the way it mounts.

so if you rename your own split files (either with standard split or MKVToolnix) to the same convention does the archos player not play them all in sequence?

i havent upgraded to 2.2. but i'll try a bit later with a basic split file.

just tried with a small mkv i had, split it into 3 50mb chunks and it plays as expected. bizarrely i can skip forward and back at will without complaint. so looks like a simple filesplit rather than faffing around with the extra overhead of MKVToolnix will suffice

Known issue: For Archos Gen8, do NOT set output path to be the flash (FAT32) storage if there is any chance that the resultant encode is >4GB. Because the whole movie is written to the output path before any splitting, the writing of the file will fail due to FAT32's 4GB limitation, and the encode will be lost. Likewise, do not use a FAT32 media as output path if splitting is not enabled.

"Normal" splitting doesn't have this issue, because the muxer (MKVMerge) itself does the splitting as it muxes.

Win 7 home, russian.

Here is my date config window in windows. It`s a defaults for russian installations on any other versions on windows.

Login in windows contains russian (maybe it calls unicode?) chars.

The filename is probably in Cyrillic (UTF-8), correct? Yeah, UTF-8 recognition may be wonky if the output path isn't the same as the input files. I'll check on it.

Workarounds: Use default output path, i.e. let the script put the output in the same folder as the input file(s). Or, temporarily rename your video to a non-UTF8 filename.

In windows i charge dae format to dd/MM/yy and it works now.

But it`s not good. It`s not standart date format for Russia.
In my date setting in windows there is ni delims "/" in date. We use dots.

After i change timestamp format in windows - recoding goes ok

OK, looked the thing over, and the error on the last line you see here,

doesn't affect the encoding process. The error is from the timestamp.cmd script not recognizing the particular date format. You can simply ignore it.

To fix it, edit timestamp.cmd:

. search: "tokens=2-4 delims=/ " (quotes needed)
. replace: "tokens=2-4 delims=/.- "

. search: set "_month=%%b"
. replace: set "_month=%%c"

. search: set "_day=%%c"
. replace: set "_day=%%b"

To help me diagnose, open a console, and enter the boldfaced commands at the prompt. You should see something like the below. Please copy-paste your results.
