Why can't I choose between PAN and DUN when it worked well before?

This seems to be the main question.....in FW 1.7.99 the possibility to choose between DUN and PAN is greyed out.
To what FW do we have to reverse back to get it funtion again??

What gave you that idea? Downgrading is as simple as downloading a previous firmware from our Wiki and putting it on your A5A. The only restriction is that you can't downgrade to a firmware that came before Android 1.6, meaning that you have to stick with the 1.7.xx firmwares.

All I keep finding is everything about BT connecting...what happened to the Ad-Hoc Wifi?? I can't seem to get my (ATT)HTC TP2 w/ Energy ROM to connect to my A5A...I've pulled,edited, and saved the WPA_supplicant.conf file and tiwlan.ini as instructed by the WIKI...but no luck seeing the connection from my fone. I am using the HTC Wi-Fi router prog that is on my fone...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I can also not connect A5IT with HTC HD2 by WiFi Router, also tried WMWiFiRouter (3e party) but the A5IT can't see the device by WiFi.....tried everything

Keep in mind that the Ad-Hoc WiFi support is a complete hack and may or may not work in any given situation.

i c... I thought it was now supported...just took a lil manual configuration. So does this mean we should soon get official support for Ad-Hoc? seeing as the ability to turn it on is already in the tiwlan.ini?? Anyone else have luck w/ this or LEAP? trying to find sumthing faster than BT connection.

Nope, to get this on most devices, you've got to root it and it's only supported on certain chipsets, not really in the OS. So it's the kudgiuest of kludges and Archos was just kind enough to allow us access to do the hack on unrooted devices.

Now Google (or some other devs) may eventually build in proper AdHoc support into a future version of Android, but that's off into the indefinite future.

Why isn't it there already? Well most Android devices have 3g data connectivity and don't have a strong need to be tethered to other data connections. Also, Android needs to be small and lean to fit and to run on devices with limited storage space and computing power. So there has been a strong effort to avoid feature/functionality bloat.

May or may not have been the best decision in the opinions of some, but it's the one that continues to guide Android's development.

and here i got this fone for this specific functionality...meanwhile, at least i fiddled the BT into working...I suppose I'll have to wait to see how the Dell Streak performs with multimedia...everything else should be on par w/ the Archos...though I do believe the Dell is going to be 2.0 or 2.1....still...multimedia functionality is a must...no Andy devices is up for the challenge to the Archos

i have the lg areana (km900at) i am having problems linking up my handset says "only connect headsets" but i read through all the info and followed step by step. i even contacts o2 my provider to make sure i had the correct APN, the guy on the end of the phone was really helpful and gave me every bit of information i might need still no luck. Can any one help, or do i have to wait for an upgrade on my mobile??

The terther protocol only has dun and not pan. My phone (tilt 2) use pan. I have the newest firm ware. Any suggestions?

Any VZW HTC Imagio users I figured out the BT DUN with widcomm BT Stack to enable BT tethering for archos. Support will be included in future roms I build for it on ppcgeeks. You will also need to do a minor epst edit via dialing ##778 entering "000000" as sec code. Change M.IP Default Profile DUN NAI field from "Your#"@dun.vzw3g.com to "Your#"@vzw3g.com. In archos the APN name is #777 and does not need username and password selected. Also, make sure data connection on phone is OFF when you check the tethering box on archos. The adhoc hack I did for it is unreliable at best and as soon as you add another wifi network the adhoc settings are busted so its not very practical. The BT DUN is a little slower but very reliable.

To set up tethering on archos 5 IT and HD Touch Pro (sprint) with Wmwifirouter.

The order needed to get all the pieces right is somewhat fickle, so here is what I have found to work like a charm .

1. Turn on wmwifi on windows mobile to share over bluetooth - this will enable PAN in the background so archos sees it when pairing.
2. Put the Touch Pro in visable bluetooth mode.
3. Initiate paring from the Archos
4. Enter your codes on the the archos, and then the phone. No services will show up as being offered on the phone but this is ok.
5. Once it is successfully paired, on the archos it will read "paired but not connected.
6. Go to cell phone tethering on the archos
7. At this point my tethering was greyed out still.
8. Methodically click on each option down the menus
- I had my wake lock set on,
- Phone connection set to bluetooth
- Selected phone as HTC13 (what my phone came up as)
- Switched tether protocol from DUN to PAN (not an option if you don't have WMWifirouter already running
- Selected carrier access point name and then left it blank.
- And lastly I selected username and password checked it and then unchecked it and finally my Tether option at the top became un greyed out and allowed my to check it. It was that last username that stumped me, It showed a default "username and password unchecked but until I clicked through everything, it didn't give me the tethering option.
- If I paired initiating with the phone first , then Pan wasn't an option even if Wmwfifrouter was running. The order made a huge difference.
- Hope this helps.

I have solved this problem for my Touch Pro on Sprint/Boost. A simple little program called PDANet will allow you to connect and surf, do email, or anything you can think of with your Archos 5.

I finally got my Verizon EnV Touch (VX11000) to tether with my A5A. I followed the instructions on the wiki as far as I could, but those were mostly for cingular service and didn't help me with the things specific to Verizon.

First I made sure it tethered to my PC, by using the instructions found here:

Then I found the APN (there is one, although a few places I saw first told me I didn't need one): (myphonenumber).vz3g.com. I do not need a username and password, although I tried with and without and didn't get either to work because I didn't have the APN; the "tether" button was greyed out.

I hope this helps someone. I can answer more specific questions if needed, but the APN was my main sticking point and was I ok with the other instructions provided once I found that. If you have the Google services installed, that gives you the white bar, you can turn on BT and connect to your phone right from there.

so now that archos finally did what they should've done from the start and allow you to pick any bluetooth device, regardless of how it 'appears', I can finally see my phone as a device on the tethering list. and when i select it, it'll come back with *device name* supports tethering which is fine and dandy. But the problem now is that when i hit the tether button, my phone will prompt me saying "Archos5 is requesting the following service: Dial-Up Networking" and when i click the allow button, my phone will sit there and wait for the archos. the archos will say "please wait while connecting..." and after a few seconds, stop and say unable to connect.

so the problem is that the archos is not telling the phone what number to dial. when i do this on my computer, there is a prompt to put the number in, which is #777 for sprint. and user name and pass is blank. this is how i do it on my laptop everytime and i don't use any special program for either device. nothing running on my phone, and i use the windows built in modem dial up connection window.


so i've tried entering the number to dial in the APN, i've tried the various APN names for sprint that i've found around the web, tried with and without passwords, everything.


so now i'm starting to think that there's no way to do this without having a spot to put the number to dial? ugh, its always something.

I tether my A5IT to my Nokia N97. I can also tether my laptop to my N97, either by USB or by Bluetooth.

On my laptop, in my Network settings, against the N97 connection my laptop shows "Phone# or Host Address".

The entry for both USB and BT connections is *99#. This setting comes from the Phone Operator.

The Archos, tethered to the same N97, asks for the Access Point Name, which, in my case, is "mobile.o2.co.uk" - my Operator is obviously O2.

So the 2 devices accept different forms of accessing the Access Point.

I just tried changing the Archos APN to the (phone number) *99#, and it wouldn't tether. On my Archos at least it wants the "Host Address" form of the APN, i.e. the Operator's GPRS ip address.

Maybe there is something similar for the US and other countries?

Do you not have on your phone somewhere, the details of the phone's GPRS Access Point? That's where my "mobile.o2.co.uk" is set, and from where I read it in order to setup the Archos.
