Looking forward to this also - my Nokia XM5800 had always tethered perfectly, but now - with 1.7.71 - the A5A just says "This phone does not support tethering"desigunda wrote:I will put instructions shortly...flymike2 wrote:Hello Desigunda,
I successfully managed the tethering with my HTC Touch HD using your instructions. Thank you!
But after upgrading to 1.7.71 I have the problem of not tethering. in which way can I change to PAN?

Tethering worked fine on my N97, until I messed with the standard settings. Then I got the same message as you.
I un-paired the Archos from the phone, and vice versa. Re-started both devices. Re-scanned the Archos for the phone, re-paired etc, and all was fine.
It now works fine on my Nokia, without making any non standard settings. Just let the phone do it. For me, it did take about three attempts.
Seems to be a bit of a black art.

Kinda hoping that the Symbian implementation of Bluetooth is comparable between N97 and 5800.......gonna try, else my lunch break is going to be a little dull

Dag Nam it - no luck - tethering is officially broken on the 5800

Bluetooth PAN works with my Samsung Jack running winmo 6.5. Also has always and currently works with my Nokia e71.

Doh ! So can you advise settings, 5800-specific and A5A-specific, so that I can try to replicate ?Astijan wrote:Mine gets the connection to my 5800XM.kevpuk wrote:Dag Nam it - no luck - tethering is officially broken on the 5800![]()
Really odd, as my 5800 tethered first time to my A5A since early firmware (1.4.09, I think) with none of the problems other users ahve experienced.....and now it just does not work; tried (un)pairing devices, rebooting both and so on

Re: List of Bluetooth tethering phones that work
Just wanted to report that with 1.7.71, I can now tether to the iPhone 3GS via bluetooth (using MyWi on JB iPhone)!! Could never do so before. The lack of a BT tether to the iPhone has been a major drawback to my using this device as a laptop replacement when traveling so thank you Archos for finally getting this working! I think the new support for Bluetooth PAN is the key for the iPhone. I also tested my previously working Nokia N96 by deleting the previous partnership and re-establishing it. Tether worked the first time! Looks to me like Archos is making very positive progress on the BT tether front.

@whydidnt
Can you tell me how you got this to work?
I cannot get this to work with mywi on my jb 3g.
I get paired but not connected in blutooth and the archos says my phone doesn't support tethering?
Thanks

Re: List of Bluetooth tethering phones that work
Yes, I do. I only tried the teethering because you said there were issues with it. Was my first time trying it. I did not get a UMTS connection due to bad reception here - too much metal in the walls. But both devices paired and the Nokia tried to establish a web connection.kevinsn wrote:Astijan - you're using the new firmware released yesterday (1.7.71)?Astijan wrote:Mine gets the connection to my 5800XM.kevpuk wrote:Dag Nam it - no luck - tethering is officially broken on the 5800![]()
Now to the bad news: It does not connect anymore. Dunno, what I did differently this afternoon, when I tried it out. Now it only pairs, but does not connect. Strange.

Re: Bluetooth tethering (All you need to know) - Discuss Here
I have a Blackberry Storm 9530 on the Verizon network with a so-called unlimited plan.
Under Bluetooth Settings > Bluetooth Devices the 9530 is paired but not connected. Based on this thread (which I've read in its entirety) this is OK, report of connection not needed.
Uncer Cell hone tethering, the BB 9530 shows up under Bluetooth phone ID. I've tried various things for the APN (e.g., blank, internet, internet.com) but tether is unchecked. When I check it, check disappears, and a message that phone doesn't support tethering.
What am I missing (besides intelligence)?

Ok, so I guess no one has a Sony Ericsson W760A to let me know if they have gotten their phone to BT Tether. So, how about any Samsung Propel Pro users? Any of you got BT tether working? If so maybe I'll sell the Sony and get the Samsung?
Thanks in advance,

WTG! I managed to tether the A5IT to my G1 using Wireless tether via bluetooth.
First step, first problem: pairing the A5 with my phone was almost impossible: the Archos times out very quickly (seconds) before it says incorrect PIN so you have to be incredible quick with the 2 devices (ask someone to help). What I did was to use a single digit PIN and got it done.
[nz do you have any idea why this happens? it's incredibly frustrating]
Run Wireless Tether on tour Android phone -> Setup -> Use Bluetooth
Start tethering!
Go to Archos -> Settings -> Wireless controls -> (activate bluetooth) -> Cell phone tethering
- enter carrier APN (has to be the same as the one that's active on your phone)
- Phone connection = Bluetooth
- Bluetooth phone ID = whatever you called your phone
- username/password = check
- enter username and password; same as the ones in your APN settings on the phone
Activate tether! (nice thing is that you get a new icon in the Power Control widget on your home screen)
I would still like to get it working through WiFi tethering (just to see it work). BTW, does anybody know which one is eating more battery? WiFi or BT tethering?
P.S. Sorry for cross posting, I also posted this in the 1.7.71 thread before seeing this thread.

Re: Bluetooth tethering (All you need to know) - Discuss Here
BT Tethering with "Nokia 3600 slide" is also broken after updating to 1.7.71.
In 1.7.33 a ppp-connection was established, in 1.7.71 a bnep-interface is showing up.
BT Tethering with "Nokia 3600 slide" works again:
- removed the pairing on A5IT and on phone
- searched for phone from A5IT, paired again
- started tethering
- It works

(http://www.forum.nokia.com/devices/3600_slide, "Connectivity")
By deleting the old pairing and making a new pairing, the phone switched to PAN.
Perhaps this works for others having problems with BT tethering in 1.7.71.
A small phone symbol is displayed in the status bar.
The "Tether" button on the "Power Control" widget works fine.
Suggestion: If "Bluetooth" is off and "Tether" is clicked, you get a message that Bluetooth is disabled and one have to first click on "Bluetooth" and than on "Tether". It would be nice if a click on "Tether" also enables "Bluetooth", so that one click is sufficient.
Have a nice weekend,
Andr├®

Yayy - persistence paid off and I now have it all working again.
Couple of un-pairs and re-pairs, from both device persepctive, along with a dash of re-booting (both devices again) and then - suddnly ! - it all worked !
The final bit that seemed to make it work, was actually clicking on the phone listed in the Tethering menu - this caused the A5A to say that tethering was supported, and off it went and connected

The first thing I did is delete the previously paired devices from each other (I'd tried tethering pre-update) So delete the iPhone from the Archos and vice-versa.creepingmee wrote: Can you tell me how you got this to work?

Turn off wiFi and turn on tethering on the iPhone.
Put both devices in discovery mode and and let the archos find the iPhone. Enter a code. The devices should pair.
On the A5A it should list the iPhone and say paired, not connected.
On the A5A, under Cell Phone tethering, enter the carrier access point name (wap.cingular if you use AT&T).
Then select the iPhone under bluetooth phone ID.
Turn on the Tether -- at this point the top bar in my iPhone turned blue and a phone icon showed up on the A5A and I was good to go.
I think depending on your carrier, you may have to enter a user name and password as well, but I didn't need to do that for AT&T. Good luck, I've found with bluetooth that if it doesn't work, you are always best deleting any existing partnership and pairing from scratch. Also, I think having tethering turned on during the pairing process might expose that service to the A5A, not sure, but it worked for me.

Have a windows mobile device and tired of bluetooth speed restrictions or having trouble setting it up? Use wifi tethering instead http://wiki.archosfans.com/index.php?ti ... n_with_WEP
