Didn't see the "fastest in the world" quote. Can you point me at it because all I could find was a reference to the browser averaging the fastest load time across several sites when compared to 3 other Cortex devices. And even then there were some sites each of the devices loaded faster than the others (with all of the other 3, including the old Archos 5 IMT, beating the A5A on Flickr).

My macbook pro loads amazon in around 5 seconds whereas the A5A takes 8.6, does that mean Safari is the fastest in the world?

i also noticed that the tests were not scientific. Last time i looked, fastest in the world needed some official evidence, rather than just one mans opinion.

UMPCportal says it clearly that Archos ARM Cortex A8 800mhz processor and Android Webkit based browser performs at least as good if not better than Viliv S5 Intel Atom. You'd have to de-activate Flash support on the Intel MID for the performance to be about equal.

This is before Google has even released an ARM Cortex A8 optimized full Chrome browser for Android which is due to happen within the next few weeks when the first builds of Google Chrome OS for ARM Cortex A8 are to be released as free open source software.

And by that time Archos will also release 45nm ARM Cortex A8 1ghz products such as the Archos Phone which will increase performance even more.

Intel Atom-based Viliv S5, locked it into 800Mhz mode (Power-saving mode) turned Flash OFF in the Firefox 3.5 browser and spent about an hour racing the Archos 5IT against the Viliv S5.

They put the Viliv in power saving mode. How is that fair when the 5it was running at full speed? What happens when they let the Viliv run without a crippled CPU (1300 Mhz)? I bet the results are quite different...

That being said, I'm happy with the browser on the 5it. It's fast and works well.

And for $249 Archos 5IT with 7 hours battery in WiFi browsing mode and 182gr is at least as fast as $549 Viliv S5 with lower battery life and 395gr.

The Viliv was purposely slowed down. What good is that test? Who would purposely slow down their device when surfing? Why not post the results at 1300Mhz and 800Mhz? The "review" is very questionable.

I posted two links. One says Archos is the fast ARM experience in the world, as fast as Intel Atom. The other lists webpage loading times for the ARM Cortex A8 based devices that are on the market where Archos wins 8 out of 10 times. (and where the last 2 out of 10 times are on a device that displays 2.5x less pixels thus doesn't really count as faster on those 2 cases)

Perhaps you would like me to make you a drawing explaining you how ARM Cortex A8 is the fastest embedded processor in the world and how Archos 5IT is by far the best and most powerful implementation of it?

If those other repositories or application developers don't want people to link directly to their apps, they can just setup some permissions in the way they provide their download links so it only works for people actually visiting or logging-in from their sites.

Google Images "hotlinks" all the images on the web.
