Spam Status
Spam Status
I don't know if we can see each others spam killing experiences, since I have lost track of logging in the new system. It's increasing, but not bad.
I can report a handful of spam most days from New Delhi (sometimes the wider subcontinent) at about their evening local time. I kill email, ip, all posts... after always having to retype my pw. It would be a little easier if admin user screen defaulted to the "delete all" choice, because you can delete one post without entering admin user mode.
I have been tempted to kill some posts that I now see as innocently picking up skimlinks.

Re: Spam Status
I usually kill a few spammers per day, but there are usually only a few that I can find. Most of them are not as obvious as they used to be. Instead of spamming with links, they post generic responses to threads, and then come back after a while and change all of their posts to spam ones. They usually post with "Thank you for this good information," or something like "Yes I have that too." You can usually spot those ones by just checking all of their posts and you will see that they don't ever post anything specific, and they often post in old threads that have been dead for a long time.
When I do find these people, I just delete their account, and make sure I hit the drop-down menu to delete all of their posts as well. I don't bother with banning most of them, because they are using proxies anyway, so we won't have access to their real IP address.

Re: Spam Status
Maybe changing the Q&A can help. Let me know if you have some good ideas for what I should put in the Q&A on registration. If possible it should be something obvious for anyone legitimate wanting to register and it should be a pain for the Indian spammer (or from elsewhere) trying to figure out the answer.

Re: Spam Status
yep the same here, probo 1-2 per day now but they are no longer showing in the logs all of the time so it difficult to see how many are hitting per day now.

Re: Spam Status
It is a pity that they don't show up in the log anymore. I used to check that regularly to see what kind of activity there has been and look for any trends I could find.
Re: Spam Status
I usually get the one person who flings in four or five always similar ads per day, usually from indian ip but sometimes bengladesh or pakistan. I cant remember seeing any signup questions, so dont know how they might be altered if that ip info is correct. What i usually miss are the generic posts which are later edited to become ads.

Re: Spam Status
Spam activity is increasing somewhat. And the delete-all process is getting more tedious... it more frequently forgets my password and takes more steps and delay to get to the needed screen. Still would help if the dropdown could default to delete all posts. It would save a couple taps and waiting for response.
Btw... the archos.com web pages are not navigatable on my gen 9. The tab dropdown things will not register a click on any of my three browsers, and there is no alternate way to navigate except a google search.

Re: Spam Status
Now i have trouble where setting the acp option to delete all posts, the screen turns white and it takes multiple refreshes to display the activate button. Might be my g9 got a virus or something... it recently got weird and is no longer reliable for bluetooth etc. If no new ics firmware comes along, i may actually downgrade to honeycomb. Or shift more to browsing on a small screen, where my fat finger cant risk setting up deletions accurately.

Re: Spam Status
I haven't had any issues with my G9 lately. I'm running on the custom ROM from this link HERE from Surdu_Petru. I'm not sure if you have yours rooted, but that ROM is nice and smooth. I would definitely suggest it.
I will say though that I don't usually do any admin/mod work on the forum from my tablet, but whenever I do check anything, I don't have any issues or problems. I usually do everything from my phone honestly.

Re: Spam Status
My new delhi nemesis keeps posting the same handful of ads daily, so i will try not wasting my time killing ip or email. Just the delete all will leave no log, but i may even try delete posts alone sometimes if it saves keystrokes from killing user and doesnt increase their post rate.

Re: Spam Status
Thanks, but I think I'd need a windows or linux machine to do it safely. BTW another XDA benefit is someone is giving free 50gb cloud space if you ask in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr ... ?t=1855381 . Only set up an empty box.net at first, since there is a chance it will be stolen while you briefly have a public password.Harfainx wrote:I haven't had any issues with my G9 lately. I guess I will revert to individual spam post deletes. My g9 often blanks out the ACP multi delete screen, that after having to re-login and wait beforehand. My arnova10 is no longer a good spam killer because the touchscreen won't work upon wakeup. I now have to always use a full boot start, which takes an absurd 2 or 3 minutes. I have tried rooting that, but the best fast boot upgrade needs a push from windows or linux. Guess my next laptop shouldn't be an apple.
