Re: 1.7.30 beta release
OK, this one was interesting...
Late last night, I was in bed half asleep, listening to web radio from the AMC in the background and was on the home screen, on the third desktop screen (the one to the right).
BTW, the device was in the battery dock, external speakers were plugged in to the headphone jack on the A5A itself (not the Dock) and the Dock was plugged into external power. Nothing else was plugged in, no SDHC card and no other applications were running and I've installed no other apps on the device yet.
So, I decide to look through the widgets. I press and hold on the screen for a few seconds and it crashes. I get an error message about Android core having crashed (I'm sorry I didn't record the exact message, as I said I was in bed half asleep.)
The machine was frozen for a few seconds and finally kicked me out to the 'Andrid' boot logo screen (Not the 'Archos' boot screen.
'OK', I figured, 'error trapping must have triggered a reboot.'
When I got back to the home screen, I hit the Music on the AMC widget and then Internal storage. It went to the internal storage menu in portrait for a splt-second, auto adjusted to Landscape and then, after another split second, dropped me back into the Music source selection screen. I repeated the process a few times and got identical results.
I rebooted and it then worked normally.
Again, sorry for the crappy reporting.

Re: 1.7.30 beta release
Since screen caps need root and users won't have root normally, I don't think it's a good idea to do that on this firmware. It needs to be as close to the released version as possible.
But if nz wants to give us special firmware after this is over with root and a signed 'no-distribute' contract for us to sign, I won't complain a bit.

seek ghosted means it did not find a "seek index", can we have a look at the file?buster8079 wrote:I remember this issue on the last firmware (and it's still here now).
Why can't I get my HD video to seek (fast forward, etc) in the Archos Media Center? In fact, the seek forward, seek backward buttons are "ghosted," and nothing on the progress bar is active...
I can only play straight through (and a tap on the screen pauses the video). The video details are as follows: Type: MKV, Size: 1485M, Duration: 58'14", Video: [H.264], Resolution: 1280x720, Bitrate: 3566kb/s, 25 fps, Audio: [AC3] 48000Hz, 5.1

I am working on this, the (video) file is 1.5GB and has been uploading (to a shared site) for a while now (I may have to give it another go?)... will update and link to file when it's complete and readynz wrote:seek ghosted means it did not find a "seek index", can we have a look at the file?

i dont know if its a bug or by design but i like it. when you remove the headphones the music playing will automatically pause... if this suppose to happen? (ive not checked video yet) if not please keep it in as it really helps with audiobooks.
also nz, do you know it there is going to be support for the fm remote, i really miss using that on this machine.

fm remote we will not support as there is builtin fm on the a5it.

Re: 1.7.30 beta release
WIFI BUG W/ STANDBY/SUSPEND (?)
This is odd. I have never had a problem with wifi, but it seems that with this beta firmware I am. This is my scenario:
1. Connect to wifi with everything (wifi-wise) working.
2. Put device into standby mode (Q: or is this suspend?)... short press on power button
3. Wait a bit of time (a brief period doesn't seem to throw the wifi off)
4. Extended press on the power button to return to an active session.
Now, at this point, it appears that I am still connected. I still have the wifi icon up in the upper-right hand corner of the screen. System settings still says I am connected to my SSID, etc. However, no browsing works... (and it is not just the web browser, the email app doesn't fetch anything from the server).
At this point, the only way I can get the wifi to work again is to:
1. Restart the device
2. Go into system settings, turn off wifi and then turn it back on.
Can anyone reproduce this?

excellent, thanks mate, its a shame about the fm remote, i never actually use the radio but i use the remote for controlling the player as getting it out of my pocket constantly gets very old very quickly - and it saves desplaying this very expensive piece of kit in not so nice areas of london. maybe a bluetooth remote may come avalible in the near future..
the firmware has been solid for me, other than it occasionally flicks to "android" boot screen then goes back to normal without intruption to music. i suppose this is just an quick reset - much better than a full out crash.

no you aren't connected anymore if you leave the standby the icon shows up but it doesn't stay for very long and then it reconnects works flawless here how it should be after some heavy Wifi Problems in the beginning firmwares i find this now relatively stable only problem still is that sometimes it scans 0 via the Settings Panel and so wont connect. 3rd party applications never have problems finding APs i learned to live with this phenomenon and might change to some 3rd party application forever instead of using the inbuilt Settings Panel for scanning and connectionbuster8079 wrote:WIFI BUG W/ STANDBY/SUSPEND (?)

Re: 1.7.30 beta release
I'll chime in on problems with Airplane mode.
Went out for a bit and was just going to listen to local media, so turned Airplane Mode on from the power button screen.
Got back and after what I was listening to ('This Week in Google', if you must know
) finished, tried to turn Airplane Mode back off, again from the power button.
I saw no WiFi icon in the menu bar, so I swished over one screen to the 'Power Control' widget, which showed WiFi and BT as Green (on). I tried using the widget top toggle the WiFi off and on again. It froze after one press and then the screen became responsive again with and the widget now correctly registered WiFi and BT as being off. However the pressing the buttons on the widget could not turn them on again.
A quick trip to settings had both Wi-Fi and BT grayed out and inaccessible.
Another long press of the power button told me Airplane mode was ON. Turning it off again resolved the issue and both WiFi and BT came back up a few seconds later.
Hope that's helpful!

Don't worry, Buster, we'll soon be on Page 3 and all will be right with the world once more...
And ditto on the 'partial reboot' i.e. Android boot screen but no 'Archos' boot screen preceding it. One of those was in my first error report. They seem to be generated by app crashes.

Re: 1.7.30 beta release
just noticed another bug, my machine was by my bed on standby all day, i just went to start it up and it was reporting sd card needs formatting and only showed half a screen.
if i put on the music or video it showed the whole screen but back on android it went back to only half a screen.
a full reboot solved both problems, im wondering if these bugs go hand in hand.

Re: 1.7.30 beta release
YouTube mobile (still?) cannot play videos through Archos Media Center. Says:
(Note: says "video" and not the name of the video clip) ...then gives error window that reads:"Opening... video"
YouTube mobile videos do play through the Android "Movies" app (w/ ¢rap quality)."Cannot play video! File is damaged or incomplete!"

Re: 1.7.30 beta release
Any and all at the YouTube mobile site.CruNcher wrote:Its working here without problems, which video ?
But it seems that Desktop User Agent is the reason(?)
I always activate the "switch to a Desktop User Agent" in the settings. But I went ahead (for the sake of experiment, though this seemed unnecessary since I was already directly at the youtube mobile site)... went ahead and unchecked Desktop User Agent, the killed the browser task (to start a new), loaded up youtube mobile... and bam the videos load in the Archos Media Center. THEN, went back to verify the opposite, the original situation... switched to Desktop User Agent, loaded the youtube MOBILE site, selected a random video, asked for Archos Media Center to open it and got the original error that the file is corrupt.
Can this be fixed? I surely don't think I am the only one that prefers that all other sites (by default) see me as a Desktop agent, but may appreciate watching youtube videos once in a while. And if this cannot be fixed, could there at least be a descriptive error message given to the user on why it is not working. Also, it seems odd that the Android movie player doesn't care one way or the other.
* boy, this side scrolling sucks, page 3 where are you?
Re: 1.7.30 beta release
That's not a bug. The Desktop version of YouTube gives you a Flash video player that the Android browser can't run by default (as desktop browsers have no problem witrh this). The Mobile version directs you to h.264 video by default.
If you're smart enough to change the user agent (a more advanced feature, I think it's reasonable to assume you know how to set it back to mobile when desktop versions of a page are unreadable or unusable. Just my opinion.
Maybe a one time warning that some pages, like YouTube, may not work correctly if you use this option that pops up the first time you select it, or perhaps a blurb to this effect can be in the manual, but I wouldn't like to see any change in the current behaviour.
I want to be able to see any version of the site I choose to see and I don't want nags or auto-redirects to have to plow through or work around, not even once. That would get real old real quick *AND* would involve some Android OS recoding. I think that there's lots of more important stuff to work on than that.

No, I don't think you understood me correctly. I have desktop agent checked. But I am on the YouTube mobile site (not the Desktop version). Or is this "gives you a Flash video player that the Android browser can't run by default" happening in the background and I am not understanding you correctly?map002 wrote:That's not a bug.
