Hello,

after some trial and error I┬┤d succeed.

Archos 101 with Froyo (from Archos) tethered with

:D SE T630 via BT (2 provider tested: blau and vodafone)

:D Samsung Omnia i8000 with mobile 6.5.3 via BT (attention: what I didn┬┤t know, one has to use the build-in ICS-programm on the mobile 6.5. So I spent some hours of trial and error.)
regards
Klaus

Is anyone having success on CDMA networks? I can only get WiFi tethering to work through my HTC Evo Shift on the Sprint network.

Yes on Verizon - rooted Droid Incredible, Wireless Tether App works like a charm.

Tablet: Archos 70IT
Phone: Unlocked Nokia E71
Bluetooth tether: Yes
Wifi tether: No via Joikuspot

Not sure why the Archos doesn't pick up my phone's hotspot. All of my laptops do and I can easily pair with them but not with this tablet. Have to tether via bluetooth.

Joikuspot only runs wifi in adhoc mode, which isn't supported by Android.

There are adhoc hacks for rooted Android devices, and my wife uses it on her rooted G-tablet to connect to her N97 (no brand other than Archos does Android Bluetooth tether as a client).

Since bluetooth tether works for me, and I have no other reason to root my Archos, I've never tried the wifi hack on my Archos 43.

Yes, if you would ever be so kind to give us details on this wifi hack it would be appreciated.
Wifi hotspot is just so much easier than bluetooth tether.

See the link below to start with:

I don't know if anyone has built an Archos version of it.

Ok, with my Archos 43 on 1.0.73 firmware...

Phone 1: Sony Ericsson K800i
Bluetooth tethering successful! Though a bit slow (due to bluetooth).

Phone 2: Orange San Francisco (running the jellyfish 2.2 custom rom from modaco)
Wifi tethering successful!
Bluetooth tethering unsuccessful - paired but can't connect. Anyone managed to get it working? Do I need to upgrade the Archos to a Froyo firmware?

Wireless DUN tethering via Bluetooth works fine. Occasionally takes 2 attempts to connect.
Congrats on getting this to work. I use wireless tether and the bluetooth connection will work sometimes but then it will drop. I have never been able to get it to work for more than a minute or two. In general it is a pain in the neck to set up and I'm wondering if you have any tips. Also, do you have the GSM version or the CDMA version? And is Wireless DUN the name of the app you use? Finally, has anyone been able to trick a phone or a tablet into sending/receiving an adhoc connection?

Phone: HTC Hero CDMA
OS: AOSP Gingerbread 2.3.2

Tablet: Archos 70 8GB
OS: Froyo AOS 2.0.71

Archos 101 and Iphone 4 via Bluetooth native tether.

Was on originally 4.0.1 on IP4 but it would connect and drop instantly. Updated to 4.2.1 and everything seems to work fine with bluetooth now.

101: 2.1.4
IP4: 4.2.1

Would it makes sense to make one list of those cell phones that do tether to Archos Gen 8 tablets, including a link to the specific post on this thread for each phone that that give instructions as to how to tether that cell phone.

At present, having to go through the 175 or more post replies to find a specific cell phone does not seem to be the most efficient means to determine if and how certain cell phones might be tethered.

I agree! And also, how many work WITHOUT rooting the phone?

For the most part, any phone that does bluetooth tethering is supported by Archos. Note that you'll need a data plan on the phone. So as a good summary:

Blackberry OS phones: Bluetooth tethering does not work due to a Blackberry bug. A simple workaround is possible but not yet implemented by Archos.

iPhones: Bluetooth tether works fine with iOS 4.x.

Android phones: Bluetooth tethering will never work without root, as Android doesn't support bluetooth tethering. The easiest workaround for non-rooted phones is wifi hotspot if the phone/carrier supports it. Most phones will work fine when rooted, as many tether apps are available.

Symbian phones: Bluetooth tethering works fine on all phones. Hotspot tethering will not work as Android doesn't support ad-hoc wifi.

Windows mobile phones (6.x or earlier): Will probably work, once the bluetooth DUN cabs are installed. I saw no posts confirming one way or the other.

Windows Phone 7: Don't know if it works, but with the Nokia partnership I'm sure bluetooth tether will be added soon if not already present.

Other phones: 99% of the remaining phones on the market support Bluetooth DUN, and will tether fine.
