Stream Media from Computer
Hey all,
I saw on the Archos website that one could stream media from their home computer to the archos 101. They referenced Samba and/or UPnP. I would love to know what the process is to do this. Can anyone explain or direct me somewhere?
Thx.

Good luck. After rooting and changing kernels I was able to get Upnp working and was able to browse files but couldn't get anything to play... Now I can't even get it to show the files. There is a thread about this already, and it seems to be a issue more related to Windows.

No Problems on Windows 7 Home Premium. I'm using an A101, which isn't rooted, or modded in any way. On the computer, i'm using Zune and WMP12. Just click 'allow' in your sharing settings and everything should be good to go.
----To get to these: Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet>HomeGroup>'Choose media streaming options...'
Then, a list will appear, with all of your networked Media Devices. Select 'Allowd' in the drop-box next to 'Archos101IT'. This will allow all of your PC's media to be shared, but you can customize it if you want.

Works flawlessly for me, straight out of the box.
Server is just running windowxs xp with a share to my main videos folder. Very simple, no frills set up.
Just go to the "files" app, then smb shares, choose workgroup, then pc, then the share ...

I have a home NAS server using http://www.freenas.org
I have SMB running on the Freenas server, the Archos not only finds the server automatically but plays my .MP3's flawlessly.
Movies are another matter, as you will see in one of my other posts.
I can see all of my movies perfectly but i can't play them due to an issue with the Archos not supporting AC3 5.1 out of the box.

I use Windows live mesh, but that doesn't affect my media, or sync with my device at all. On the device, select your application (music, videos, etc..) then click External-Network and then Upnp. Then it should be in there.lordofwisconsin wrote:taylorabc- you install cloud?
----Also, check your FireWall. I use Microsoft security essentials, and the built in windows firewall, and I didn't have to open any ports, but, I also have an Xbox 360 on my network, so that might be helping things along. So, try without a firewall if you're using Norton or some other 3rd Party firewall.

The easy way for me to streaming media from PC/Notebook, use audiogalaxy service. Just install audiogalaxy app on Archos 101 and install audiogalaxy helper on PC/Notebook for more information visit this link ---> http://www.audiogalaxy.com

Not really an issue you just need to buy the $15 codec upgrade.Trebz wrote:I have a home NAS server using http://www.freenas.org

Are you viewing your movies on Freenas with SMB? I can't seem to get UPnP to work consistently.

Re: Stream Media from Computer
Windows 7 64bit Ultimate Media Streaming was intermittent on Stock A101 using the upnp, i am now using twonky media server and it is always there when i want to connect and watch videos from my pc. The only issue is with my A101 when a video stops or is stopped it crashes with this message: The Application Files (process com.archos.fm) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again with a button says Force Close! Then i have to go back to the file directory refresh a scan of upnp servers and navigate back to where the videos are. Annoying.

I just use Files:SMB. Find the movie and play it.

I cant access SMB it keeps asking for User/ Password. Even when i enter it just wont go past that screen. I think it has something to do with Windows 7 Or more to it Windows live, i had some trouble like this on the Xbox SMB, which was windows live sign in assistant. I don't have that now and xbox access via smb ok. Frustrating!

I never got windows 7 built in to work, so I put XBMC on my laptop and it works perfectly. I can stream Audio and Video without a problem.
Re: Stream Media from Computer
Thanks for the posts. I do have file streaming working from my windows 7 server but it requires two programs to make it work and I was hoping to just use es file explorer. LOL. Looks like everyone is in the same boat and you need 2 programs. No worries, just thought there might be some way to stream directly from es file explorer.
Just in case this might be helpful to others I use a program called mini file manager It seems to see all my important shares but only on the one drive I needed to share - so it's worked out for me.
