I noticed yesterday afternoon that my Kindle suddenly FCs on startup.
I tested the app on my good old Archos 5it and saw that they show a snowing background in the book-shelf now.
The solution to the problem ist simple but stupid. Set your date in the settings to the 21st of Dec and it will work again.
I hope the app won't be showing this bg for the while winter but only over christmas, as I certainky don't want to be setting my dare back until march next year

EDIT: INSTALLING THE LATEST KINDLE APP UPDATE WILL FIX THE PROBLEM.

Wow! I hadn't tried the apparently in the past ties days until reading this. it does not work anymore. same with borders reader. that's why all of my books are pdf.
I reported the issue to Amazon. The initial reply was that they were glad that the date change resolved the issue. I resubmitted and let them know that the date change is a workaround, not a resolution, and that they need to get the app fixed.
I had a look at the logs and some warnings appear when it fails (without the date set back to the 21st). Im not sure what it means (kcp may be a protocol to speak to the kindle servers?). I also tried when not connected to the internet and this did not help.
Maybe this information would be useful to Amazon, or maybe the warnings are a result of the crash. The long pause at the beginning does seem like time out though.
The problem is with the snow animation that is shown in the background on the book shelf. The app only shows this after the 22nd, I guess this is thought to be some kind of christmas special. I played around with the date and after the 26 it will work again normally as before. This means amazon just broke it for us over christmas.
Ahh the warnings in the logs must have just been a symptom of the crash. Was as good an excuse as any to try out CatLog Glad the problem was fixed so quickly!
