Request: A2DP Quality and Accessing Media files

Post by hippieschuh »

Hello,

I have a request for the new Archos Gen8 owners, can you please test the following:

- A2DP (stereo audio over bluetooth)
- Accessing Media files over Network (either upnp or network share)

Im currenlty using a belking stereo bluetooth receiver wich is connected to my hifi reciever. When I use a nokia phone (6550 fold) to connecto the the belking bluetooth receiver, it works very well with no stutter/connection loss. The quality is very good.

But when I use my htc legend there is a lot of stutter and the quality is not so good.

I found that its not only a htc problem but a android problem in generall:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=518918

So anyone with a Archos can try how a2dp compares to other devices? For example my legend sutters/skipping as soon as I move it or someone walks in between mobile phone and receiver.

Another Question would be how does accessing media files work on the archos? can you easly access videos and music from your network or upnp device? What about photos? do you get a preview?

Many thanks if you can help me

Please take into account that any review of BT stereo is totally dependant on both receiver AND transmitter.
Not all devices are fully compatible.
I have found the Archos BT stack to be exceptionally good with new (2010) receiver devices. I can guarantee, any BT device you have had for over 2 years is in need of replacement.
I would recommend a search of the forum for good BT stereo audio devices.
As far as I know, the Gen 8 devices impliment BT stereo EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) to the latest spec.
I would advise you to check that your receiving device is EDR compatible....

Hope this helps.

Many thanks for your Input, It would be great if archos had a better Bluetooth support then the HTC Legend or that its just my BT stereo receiver.

But there are several things that indicate that it is indeed an android/htc Problem. My bluetooth receiver is relative new I bought it a few weeks ago and the product was released 2009 afaik.

I also like to point out that my Nokia 6550 fold (a phone from 2006) does stereo BT (a2dp) VERY good, I have no stutter/shutter/skip unless Im realy out of range from the BT receiver.

While on the other hand, when I use my htc legend, even in close range (less then 1m) as soon as I move the phone, the music beginns to stutter/shutter/skip.

So wouldnt that be a Problem of the htc legend or the android software? since the nokia phone works without any problems?

basically it seams that both a2dp and hfp (bluetooth profiles) are running at the same time and causing Problems. Disabling HFP is the solution but this is a not supported option on any android device.

Since the tablets do not require hfp (hands free profile) as it is not a phone, I hope they will disable the profile, wich is unfortunetly very unlikely.
