still can't play DRM protected files? why?

Post by chamberlin »

After buying a Blue Ray disc that also came with a digital media content DVD ROM disc for transferring to Windows Media Center, i-Pods etc... I managed to
transfer the content to the Archos 704 WiFi, but it comes up with the protected content warning and won't play...

Then, I found in this post after searching:

http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=4209&hilit=protected+wmv

SO, is there any plan to ever allow DRM content to be played on this device?

thanks

From what I can tell, you have to record the DVD onto the archos via the AV input rather than trasfering the content from a PC. Make sense?. It will then only play on the unit itself and will not output to a TV or other device.

Yea that makes sense, but I can do that with just about any video source.... the whole point of the "digital copy" is so I don't have to 'rip' the video to put it on my portable device. The idea is to just transfer the file directly from the digital copy DVD ROM disc to the device. Plus, the digital copy's video is already of mediocre quality, and ripping it would degrade the picture quality even further, and by that time, it just ain't worth it...
