Archos 3 Full Specs and Release date Questions

Post by gino_76ph »

Can anybody tell me the full specs of the Archos 3. and i have a few questions:

1. does it have bluetooth?

2. does it have wi-fi?

3. does it or will it support widgets or apps?

4. does it have a dedicated audio chip? (i'm new to Archos MP3 players but i heard so far that they do sound good)

5. does it support user EQ settings like the Samsung P3?

6. how many playlist (and songs on one playlist) can it handle?

7. does Archos have the reputation of firmware updates like Samsung's famed bluewave firmware updates?

8. any SDHC card slot?

i think if Archos 3 wants to survive the first 3 features IMHO is vital & important. most 8GB players have a minimum battery life of "up to 30 hours". 14 hours doesn't cut it for me but if the sound is good (dedicated audio chip plus user EQ settings), touch screen is very responsive, has at least widgets support and firmware updates then i might have a second look and think seriously.

First of all this player its a iPod Nano contender... I would not consider it as an iTouch killer.. like title says...

So with that in mind:

1. No. But it does have FM Radio and Transmitter

2. No wifi

3. No that im aware of it. but Archos could make apps for it.

4. I dont know but they usually sound great (though some models have low volumes)

5. Most likely it will have EQ

6. Given Archos history, the numbers of playlist its limited only by the available memory space... and I dont really know how many songs can you get into those, but for old players was 999... for newer generations I think its up to 9999 per playlist

7. Archos will release updates for a few month, then it will be forgotten and support will jump to the next gen players...

8. It will not have card slot... But will be release in 8GB and 16GB.

From reviews we can see the touch interface is great, and very responsive. Also note that it have built in TV-out feature, so you will be able to play video content (or photo) out to a TV display.

In my opinion I think they should offer different versions of this model. They should definitely include Bluetooth capabilities, and a microSD card slot. Thats what separates it from high end players....
I use my blackberry as my main mp3 player... and it support bluetooth 2.0 with av remote control profiles so its awesome for wireless audio, and it takes microSDHC so I can put it up to 32GB... And navigating with trackball/keyboard its even better than just a click-wheel, since you can just start typing a song name or artist to find possible match... very quickly.

More expensive Archos Android devices will have these things and many more features. I think it could happen Archos will sell the Android line of products starting at +$50 thus +50% of price increase at the same screen and capacity sizes. It is also likely Archos Android line will start only at higher screen size and much higher hard drive only capacities, so it would be priced higher.

It seems to have EQ control.

It seems good playlists management will have to wait for an eventual firmware update. That is, at least according to the first people testing the early available device with the release firmware version.

Nope, too bad.

Archos 3 Vision is going to be sold less than $80 at the cheapest online resellers and in the cheapest stores.

It's a great device for people who don't absolutely want Internet, apps and advanced multimedia features, which are most people who want ipod touch or Samsung P3 devices.

Consider Archos 3 Vision is 2x cheaper than any ipod touch or Samsung P3.

Archos always quotes the minimum battery life in "normal use" (I dunno if 50-70% volume and shortest backlight power saving mode and medium backlight intensity and medium backlight usage, and medium bitrate audio). Other competitors state their battery life in maximum testing configuration like minimum volume (ridiculous) and actually no backlight at all (also ridiculous).

I haven't tested battery yet, waiting to see what people will find out, but I think it is likely that Archos can have more than 20 hours of battery life as well if you go to a minimum volume and don't use the backlight at all and make it play the easiest to decode audio files.
