Track Ratings - Synching problem

Post by gdamaro »

:?:

Hi There,

FEATURE:
I have a question I hope someone can help me with. On the Archos, whilst listening to music tracks, if you select Menu>Set Rating you can rate tracks from "None" through to 1 to 5. Now I find this feature very useful and it's great for listening to your favourite tracks without having to create the playlists.

PROBLEM:
When I rate tracks on the Archos, then perform a synch with WMP 11, it doesn't synch the rating to my files in my PC library and worse still, forgets the rating. I'm guessing it synchs the file from my PC to Archos only, not the other way around. If I rate tracks on my PC then synch, the ratings are synched correctly.

HELP:
Does anyone know how I can rate my tracks on the Archos and synch those tracks with my PC library?

Thanks!
G

I can't really help too much other than to confirm that you can sync ratings back to wmp11 from the archos. I rate songs all the time on the archos, and then when I next sync up these ratings are copied back onto the files on the pc. I am assuming you are using the archos in windows media mode? I actually use MediaMonkey, but it uses the same MTP protocol as wmp11. You could try mediamonkey instead and see if you have better luck.

Thanks Waysid, any ideas what settings (within WMP 11) I should choose in the "Set-up Synch" options screen? I have tried it with the following playlist selected to synch - "All Music". Is it easy to set up the device to synch with Media Monkey? I have it installed but not setup for synch. Would you recommend removing all the music from the 605 before synching with Media Monkey?

Not really sure on wmp11 setting as I abandoned it a while ago for media monkey,

with mm, yeah I would delete your music and start again. If you search on mediamonkey and playlists, I have posted on a few different threads the settings that I used.

it happens automatically if you have the archos set to windows media mode. MediaMonkey detects its a mtp device and treats it accordingly. One note though. the 605 stores its ratings in some sort of its own database and then when it syncs they get transferred back to the pc by updating the tags of the pc songs. Sometimes though the archos-side database gets messed up and the ratings don't get synced back. I think this happens if you manually rebuild the arclib between syncs.or something like that.

Best thing to do when starting with MM is to do a clean sync to the 605 ( delete all content 1st ). Then after you change ratings on the 605 just sync back up with MM and all should be good.

Hi Waysid,

Sorry for the late reply on this - just wanted to say finally got MM up and running and the ratings synch perfectly with 605.

Thanks for your help!
