Has cell phone tethering been removed on the 70b it2?

I can pair with my phone via bluetooth but there's no cell phone options anywhere.

OK, I got a reply from Archos support:

Dear Customer,

We inform you that the device do not support the bluetooth tethering.

Kind Regards,

I've just bought my Archos 70b and thus far am relatively happy with it, but I would have liked to have had internet access other than via wifi as FAQs imply you can by internet tethering on a 3G phone. I have an iPhone 4S which I now know doesn't work - no mention of this in FAQs (although Blackberry is). I have managed to pair my phone but no connection.
I had the same reply about tethering from Archos support.
So is there any way of accessing the internet when you are away from wifi? FAQs says there is no dongle that works. I had considered buying a cheap PAYG 3G Android phone - but would this work?

I believe that the expected usage is to setup your 3G phone as a wi-fi hotspot and then connect to it from the Archos as you would any other wi-fi hotspot.

The problem with that idea (as discussed at length elsewhere on these forums) is that the Archos will only connect via wi-fi in infrastructure mode. Many 3G phones (like mine) are only capable of creating ad-hoc hotspots which is not supported.

The good news is that you have an iPhone 4 which means it is capable of creating a compatible hotspot. Your mobile operator (Vodafone, etc) will probably charge you extra for using this facility though.

What about tethering with a USB cable to a phone? will this work.... has anyone had success with this?
In my setup menus there is a entry for USB tether... (I have a micro - micro cable in shipment in post so will try in next days).. or what about tethering to PC to get network connection (bit odd I know... - but it might at least prove it works)... bummer that ad-hoc hotspots do not work (I did try, with my 70bit - no rooted.... is there no app that will make this work??)

many thanks.

Stephen
