Looks like Archos have gone to ground - they are not answering any of my requests for support - they must be hard at work coming up with a solution. :?

Yes, for me the recommended procedure fixed the MediaCenter crashes. Thanks!

For those experiencing issues with HDMI/DVI monitors or persisting MediaCenter crashes after 4.0.25-TEST1 firmware, could you please try this new test firmware and report about any improvement:

Thank you for your reports and feedback.

how about addressing the poor battery life and the constant automatic deep sleep after like 12 hours...can we have that next please.

Seriously I know lots of people rage about certain brands and makes etc and say "im never buying from so and so again" but this is a case where I WILL say that....im sending mine off for repair as Argos wont refund me until Archos say they can't fix what they broke in the first place with their god awful firmware...then I will buy a Nexus 7 and be done with cheaper alternates!

Yes! - I had huge problems with GPS after upgrading from Android 3.2 to 4.0.3. Then I did a full wipe, and since then GPS worked as expected.

Looks good!

Installs without problems. Seems to work stable (I played some mp3s and am running a video for 1 hour now). I could not test those HDMI devices which have smaller resolution than Full-HD (I will report this evening on them) but at least for the DELL-LCD 1920x1200 the A80G9 correctly recognizes the panel ratio, selects 1920x1080 (thus black borders above & below) with correctly showing the 4:3 desktop in its right ratio and filling videos to the 16:9 1920x1080. A FullHD Samsung TV set also (still) works correctly (including the CEC/remote control notice)... tonight we will know if it works for the beamer and smaller LCD as well...

Because i still have many problems with the fw upgrade, i was willing to try the new TEST- firmware.
After installing i got the message 'MediaCenter stopped working' right after starting up, and for the first time.
i had to go back to the original fw update
I start getting the impression that they don't know what they are doing out there.
i want fw 4.07 back, because this is going nowhere.
i want a working product right now!

I tried this new version and the problem with MediaCenter persists and might be even worse than before.

I wonder if Archos has outsourced their firmware development to a contract firm who really don't care what happens to Archos products as long as they get paid.

It has been said that Archos only has 200 employees - not really enough to do more than Marketing and contract management.

Bragon, are you guys working with Google to get the YouTube app sorted?

YouTube app has to buffer for a long period (about 2-3 mins) to load videos.

It used to work on the firmware before 4.0.7, I think.

I noticed that my battery is discharging a bit faster than with the old firmware. Wifi now works with hidden SSID.

Good news on 4.0.25 TEST-2: Almost there ...
On A80G9 HDMI aspect ratios are OK now (desktop is in 4:3) largest compatible *listed* resolution of the external HDMI device is selected, video fills 16:9 screen. Nearly as perfect as in 4.0.7!

Small issue remains: somehow the truly available resolution of the LCD is not detected (1366x768) as it was in 4.0.7 instead it uses at least the highest one. That is something I do not fully understand. However 4.0.25-TEST_2 is usable for me.

I played media files for some hours... In my specific case, there are no crashes of the media center (I only had them in the first use of 4.0.25 anyhow before clearing the app data) and it reacts overall quite fast.

In the catlog there are some strange debug messages which I attach together withe the plug-in messages of the two HDMI devices LCD beamer and LCD-display:

Re: Firmware 4.0.25 Live - Report Bugs!

Post by birdiezzz »

I wonder if Archos has outsourced their firmware development to a contract firm who really don't care what happens to Archos products as long as they get paid.
just what i was thinking!........
i'am afraid that will be normal for cheaper poducts.
i have seen it with other systems i own, that became useless for me after an fw upgrade.
waited years for promised improvements that never came, and i had to throw them away.
i think they hope most users don't know how to upgrade, or don't bother at all.

After installing i got the message 'MediaCenter stopped working' right after starting up, and for the first time.
Have you tried the procedure 'bragon' had described here:
http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.p ... 80#p407207
For me that did the trick.

thanks for the help.
I tried that before and after, saveral times without any change.
it should not be our task to do al this checking and testing anyway.
this is crazy and not very professional.
the testing should have been at Archos BEFORE making it public!.

damn straight it should of been...I've been rather lucky up until now with firmware updates...I was sitting there thinking "you know...4.0.7 went on spot on...though a few complained about bugs I havent had any...so you know...I think I will install that new update...Archos seem to be good people" HA! >_<

bragon wrote:For those experiencing issues with HDMI/DVI monitors or persisting MediaCenter crashes after 4.0.25-TEST1 firmware, could you please try this new test firmware and report about any improvement:
http://update.archos.com/9/gen9/gen9_4. ... os_it4.aos
Thank you for your reports and feedback.

I tried this new version and the problem with MediaCenter persists and might be even worse than before.

This is the new error log:

--------- beginning of /dev/log/main
--------- beginning of /dev/log/system
11-09 10:42:20.312 E/dalvikvm-heap( 4458): Out of memory on a 20752-byte allocation

Update: I erased all the data on MediaCenter app and rebuilt the database using the repair options and now both Music and Video seem to be working better.

Thanks,

Same with me, media center was crashing after update but since I rebuild multimedia library it's still stable until now. Haven't tried other apps though. :)

How is it possible that this update give so much trouble by some users and not by all users??
