found the same thing with my 80 the other night. Left it on charge all day and was shocked to see it at 1% when I picked it up to use it. When I checked what had been using the batt it showed 'media server'. I recall turning this on way back when but never used that functionality - now I cant locate where the setting to turn it off is? Can anyone assist? (other than that though, Mine seems to be running fine with .25 - touch wood).

101 g9 250gb media-crash bug-fix firmware
Would it be possible to get logs with adb from a pc of the crash you are experiencing?
It helped locating the issue for other customers and might help here as well.

Thank you for your feedback

That gives me some hope that bug-fixes for the HDMI issue of falling back to 640x480 instead of selecting the correct HDMI output resolution for non-Full-HD/non-CEC-capable(?) devices (as it worked correctly in 4.0.7) might be in the making...

OK, I know that there are some more urgent issues than my problem but at least someone from archos is interacting with the users here.
Regarding your setup, I would need to get more information about your "non-Full-HD/non-CEC-capable" device (/me guesses DVI monitor/display).
A good start would be to get the logcat when attaching the device to the display. We will understand based on the logs what happens.

Could you please share those logs?

When i tried to move some movies from my internal hhd to my USB-stick it would not work and after that my USB-stick was unreadable and after that i was unable to restore all the movies on it.
i have no backup and 32gb of movies are gone.
i wish i had bought an other and better tablet.
the cheaper price is not worth the troubles you get
To hot, to slow screen with stylus, to heavy to carry for longer time, and to short working time.
And the new firmware is the next problem.
(and i have had exact the same (fw) troubles with the A.C. Ryan media player!)
i hate to say this, but i think i would have been better of with an ipad.
And i hate Apple! (i'am a mac user!)

Definitely, as the iPad does not have an USB-port, so you would not have been able to even try that. :)
When there is no backup available, I recommend to "copy" a file, check it and delete one version later instead of "moving" it, no matter what operating system and from where to where you copy, as there is always a chance that something goes wrong.

I'm willing to do that but I'm not techie. I have logcat app but I don't know how to paste it here. I tried to save it but it's saving as a txt format so it doesn't look like with the other person who post his log.

With 'move' i meant copy. (movies still 'moving' from one place to an other);-)
i know about the missing USB on a Apple.
But that was not the point.
If you copy a file and the original file and stick become corrupted, and there is no copy made, than there is nothing to check anymore. It's all gone!
And it worked fine before the upgrade.
Another problem is that if i switch off my Archos the LED stays on, on half strength.
i have to push 10 sec to reset to switch the tablet off totally.
This never happened before the fw upgrade.
And i know from history that this is the start to much more trouble.
i have gone through it before with other products.

alpenn wrote:Hi,
Since I've upgraded my 16gb Archos 101 turbo I have noticed the following issues.
1) The display sleep timer is only allowing you to set it to 5 minutes but actually turns the display off before this time. :(
2) When the device is left for long periods of time it automatically puts itself into a deep sleep even though this is not set in battery settings. :?

Has anyone else noticed this. The display timer is a real pain for me.

Update
I've also noticed that when enabling 3G stick that if it is not detected that sometimes the device reboots itself.

I am still having problems with Media Center after installing the new version of firmware 4.0.25 (210,033 KB in size) and after deleting all data on Media Center app and allowing database to rebuild.
I have a 101 G9, turbo 1.5 Ghz, 250 GB HDD and only 512 Mb of RAM. Since I see that archos staff is requesting adb log files, this is mine:

... gladly! I am however not an expert but I tried to extract the significant parts from logcat. My device is an 80g9 Turbo(1.2GHz)/16GB. I now have the 4.0.25-Test1 firmware.

Actually I am now having the sneaking suspicion that the bug might be related to the 4:3 screen of it. In 4.0.7 the archos selected the best available vertical resolution and showed its homescreen in 4:3 on an 16:9 device with borders left&right and the 16:9-videos were filling the full screen at full resolution of the display. Now the archos seems not even to notice ALL reported available resolutions (does it ignore the non-4:3?) ... seems to misread the true "panel" dimensions and selects a very low resolution in 4:3.

I tested several display devices all with "true" HDMI inputs (thus not using a DVI adapter). All of them worked fine with 4.0.7 and don't work correctly anymore with 4.0.2x:
The worst one was a 1920x1200 Dell-monitor which was showing the homescreen in awfully stretched 640x480 (in 4.0.7 it was Full-HD). I have however no logcat of that one. The other device is a LCD-Beamer with native 854x480 physical pixels and support for 1080(i) input signals. In 4.0.7 a high 16:9 resolution was selected (with and the videos were full-"screen" - now at least a 1024x768 (4:3) resolution is selected but the videos are then displayed as miniatures with borders L&R AND above and below :(. The third failure for 4.0.2x is a 1366x768 LCD monitor which was perfectly filled with 1:1 pixels in the right aspect ratios and now 640x480 is selected (and stretched to 16:9). As far as I read it from the logcats, the archos does not even see most of the higher available resolutions any more...

If you wish, I could also post for comparison the full cat of the successful negotiation with an Full-HD TV were everything is selected correctly... here only the resolution part of that one:

These lines seem to hint to a ratio detection problem (are they calculated or reported?)...

Re: Firmware 4.0.25 Live - Report Bugs!

Post by Evilsweep »

I updated to 4.0.25 and like everyone else, I wish that I didn't! Anyways, I checked the RAM and found that even though I didn't have any apps running I only had 1mb of ram left, surely this can't be right, how the heck can apps run if there is no ram, what on earth does this update do with all my ram.

The worst thing is, I actually did a full format before installing the latest update thinking that it would help, wrong again.

Anyone else having an issue with the ram?

I noticed that myself this morning. Is that a new behaviour in 4.0.25? I haven't really paid attention to the LED.
On the other hand, this evening I see that the LED goes dim for a few seconds and then does turn off. Not what I think happened earlier...

Mine is doing the same thing and the hdd is spinning. I notice it everytime the device need to build up media center, I could be wrong. Anyway I can't remember seeing it before on 4.0.7.

Archos guys maybe i got very little standing on this but why don't you just make a roll back firmware for those who would like to.

I "upgraded" thinking I could revert back if I had problems : G9 80 Turbo 1.5 16gb etc
Bugs so Far :

1 : when I play "Scramble with Friends" the sound really struggles to keep up with me, I get the feeling that the game does not play as smoothly - it is really glichy as compared to my "classic" on 4.07

2 : GPS fails to locate ANY satellites " Classic" locks within seconds

3 : Sent a file from "Classic (.07)" to "Turbo (.25)" the Turbo froze after download - may be a one off

Constant problem with Error 221 - regardless of version attempting to re install older versions.

Can anyone assist? (other than that though, Mine seems to be running fine with .25 - touch wood).

Hi, I believe you need to turn off the media sharing. This can be done in the media server app.

Since 4.0.25 update:

- tablet randomly reboots on it's own (3-4 times per day).
- battery life is half what it used to be.
- battery does not always charge when left overnight.

I don't use media center but from what I have been reading that is definitely a good thing for me.
I tried to install previous version of firmware, but like others, the G9 will not allow this. Please, at least give us a choice!

Re: Firmware 4.0.25 Live - Report Bugs!

Post by cyprids »

Had many of the mentioned issues with 4.0.25....hangs, lost HDD access, slooow boots, random reboots etc...
Usage is for streamed videos as well as local stored videos and internet browser plus a few unimportant apps.

After seeing a post in this tread about disabling apps I took a look at my apps and disabled all irrelevant apps from my POV.

All contact, email, maps, streetview, talk, voice and photo related apps plus archos remote server was disabled...Now my G9 80 HDD boots faster than before (< 1.45min) (reboot works also now) anddoes not loose HDD access after sleep mode etc.

Have never had an issue with MediaCenter thought except with pmp to my NAS...this also works now as it did with 4.0.7..

Anyway, Android reminds me of the good old Windows 95 days where you needed extra 17 apps just to have a stable OS...HA...

Cheers
