Re: Firmware 4.04 released - report bugs here
You guys are awesome! downloading update now, will report any bugs if i find any. I'm excited
Bugs i've noted:
Seems that when the screen turns off, and the wifi disconnects, and the screen turns back on, the only way to reconnect to wifi is to disable it, then re-enable. then it finally connects automatically
First impressions:
UI is beautiful
Menus seem to have some lag (settings menu mostly, worse than honeycomb)
Camera app is awesome! picture quality also seems better?
internet browser seems to be more fluid
Chrome beta in the market!
overall still seems slow and laggy :/
I was really hoping for a smooth firmware without all these lags and whatnot..guess thats what happens with a 1ghz processor. Might try to overclock it to 1.2 or 1.3 ghz and see if it helps
Edit! I may have spoken too soon...I did a full format, and reinstalled the official aos, and this is running super fast!
I think we should be able to remove some programs such as user manual, archos connect, archos remote, media server, online registration, etc. It would be nice to have this ability without rooting. at least we can now disable google maps in the apps settings

Re: Firmware 4.04 released - report bugs here
Trying to play movies I Google video player, it says " failed to fetch licence"???? So can't play, any ideas and is this because of my new ICS update?
Re: Firmware 4.04 released - report bugs here
Great. I will test it.

Re: Firmware 4.04 released - report bugs here
the archos site gave me a .bin file instead of .aos but renaming it worked
Re: Firmware 4.04 released - report bugs here
New FW installed. At first the devices crashed while re-start, but then there was no problem during installing.
Bluetooth devices working partially:
- JBL OnTourXTB found and paired -> I can hear sound
- Jabra BT3030 not found and not paired

Still depressingly slow, slower if anything, those who scrubbed and restarted to make it faster, what did you actually do?
Archos G9 8GB
Re: Firmware 4.04 released - report bugs here
Go into recovery, format everything, and then drop the new .aos file in when it prompts you.tarcus wrote:Still depressingly slow, slower if anything, those who scrubbed and restarted to make it faster, what did you actually do?
Re: Firmware 4.04 released - report bugs here
on the market setup (google apps setup), it says "gathering information about your phone"
this is not a phone
not sure if archos can fix this, or if it's just built into google apps
this is not a phone

yes. do this. it sped up my tablet a million times...Harfainx wrote:Go into recovery, format everything, and then drop the new .aos file in when it prompts you.tarcus wrote:Still depressingly slow, slower if anything, those who scrubbed and restarted to make it faster, what did you actually do?

Re: Firmware 4.04 released - report bugs here
Thanks, at the moment in the time it takes the Archos to load this page I was able to pick up the htc flyer, unlock it, navigate to this page and get about halfway through typing this paragraph so it's slow!
Also rather worryingly my normally rock-solid wireless router keeps locking up when the Archos is connected but is fine when the Archos is turned off.

There must be something seriously wrong with your archos, mine takes about 3 seconds to load this page.tarcus wrote:Thanks, at the moment in the time it takes the Archos to load this page I was able to pick up the htc flyer, unlock it, navigate to this page and get about halfway through typing this paragraph so it's slow!

Re: Firmware 4.04 released - report bugs here
Wifi connection keeps dropping when streaming videos over UPNP. Tried the built in upnp browser and BubbleUpnp.
I have to disable wifi and then enable it again to reconnect. WPA2 wifi connection. Apple Airport extreme router.
Tried streaming over SMB connection and it does it as well.

Re: Firmware 4.04 released - report bugs here
Seems slow since upgrade - longer loading times and less responsive touch screen.
Also get "not connected to the internet" messages when the web page loading behind in Dolphin clearly proves it is!
Still no joy with BBC iPlayer either - Flash 10.3 doesnt seem to be recognised (just get the blue lego block in browsers).

Re: Firmware 4.04 released - report bugs here
No problems here with the speed. And i did not do any reformat, just downloaded the update manually and installed it. Maybe it's a specific app that causes the slow speed? And the app of course is gone after doing a reformat.
I had one freeze followed by a reboot until now using ICS. No other problems.

Re: Firmware 4.04 released - report bugs here
Ok. It was nice the update... Thanks Archos for the surprize! LOL
It was YES slow.
I made the reformat thing.
That was amazing.
Let me just say WOW!
OMG I love my Archos!
Internet navigation it's just smooth experience and the rest is FUN.
Great, now I can say I can say "I'm an Archos fan". A happier one!

Re: Firmware 4.04 released - report bugs here
Anyone that updated without formatting and has a slower system... Please try formatting completely and then install the new firmware. Let us know if that makes it faster.
It seems like a full-wipe is the way to go on this update.

Re: Firmware 4.04 released - report bugs here
How do you format before the install?
Re: Firmware 4.04 released - report bugs here
I've watched 3 tv shows on Netflix and the Archos hasn't rebooted. The network connection has had to be reset 3 times though. If that can be fixed I'll be in love.
