Woot! Deal of today Archos G9 101 8GB Turbo $279.00

Post by zandoli »

Woot

It says 1.5GHz but we know that can't be correct... Unless if that's the newly released.

It is also the new 8 GB Turbo model.

Looks like the new design. Cleaner sides... less space between the top and bottom panels

May truly be 1.5 after all

Was just going to post this. Are there supposed to be 8GB turbos though? I'm not confident that they have their facts straight. Especially since I haven't seen any full price 1.5 ghz models yet...

This is an awesome deal! I don't think it's a new design, it's probably just a new skew because Archos wants to be price aggressive with 1.5Ghz Turbo in the coming months, best to be price agressive with the 8GB ROM skew.

What you said is what I meant...

...but picture of Tablet looks like this skew has a better 'finish'.

about a week now, have 80G9 16Gb turbo with the OMAP 4460 1.5GHz, from qvc

the volume rocker is the biggest external giveaway of newer build models, compared side by side with classic, only real visual/ feel differences are: volume almost flush & flat rocker surface not concave, power button is a little closer to case and more solid feeling, sd card seems to be a little closer to tablet when installed, overall build quaility is a little better. System testing is ongoing

Sorry, I don't understand. You have in your hands this new model with new design, or it arrives in a week?

This model have 1Gb of RAM or 512MB?

Ufff, there are a lot of types of 80G9 in the market... How can we find the ultimate version? Are there any trick to detect easylly if a tablet is the ultimate version, viewing the tablet? A button or anything. I see the differences list but viewing a tablet in a shop I can't detect what version is, if I haven't the two different versions near side by side to compare.

Thanks!

I have it now, 1.5MHz 512MB 80G9 16GB turbo (the same in the 101 is out there to) but potential buyers need to be careful if they go same route, please refer to my recent post on subject for more details

on how to tell difference. First indicator should be on box, my 80 shows Ref# 501895 P/N A80 16GB turbo US. I can't guarantee that all with that are the same, but that's what I have.

the way to tell if the OMAP4460 processeser is onboard: on tablet, got to settings > about tablet and it will list 4460 (or 4430)

on getting the latest and greatest. (I'm far from expert on here so doing research is recommended)
ÔÇóI understand it this way, the 16GB turbo 80 or 101 with OMAP4460 1.5GHz and 1GB of RAM is around the corner in March "hopefully" this is what everyone seems to be wanting, it should have the new operating systems ice cream sandwich (ics). There will likely be a teething period on those and then the next "new improved" version will be promised and sure to tempt you!

(I should of said any G9) As far as I understand, 1GB RAM models are forthcoming and not available yet in any G9.
*also, expecting 1.5GHZ 4460 512MB is not a wise move, they are rolling these out randomly it seems, they are out there (one is in my hands) but not advertised

How do you find the 1.5GHz 4460 512MB?
I ordered one and it will be in my hands in 2days!
Should I have waited for the 1.5GHz 1GB now come to think of it??

I'm still perplexed as to when ICS will be released as Archos advised this would happen in early feb!

First, ICS should be available on updates soon for any g9 (some debate if 1.5GHz & more RAM are necessary or better on ICS, (I don't think so)
on how to find, you can't, they are not advertised as far as I can tell, unless you can get Retailer to open box and test before purchase (not likely) Or just check system when you receive it, try it out, it will probably meet all your needs.
Wait. Why? you could wait a long time. hold off for 'better' model?? then after a few months the next big thing is on the market and.... you see the cycle? If you have the time/ patience and money to wait, that may work for you
