Downgrading to 1.0.84 from 2.0.54?

Post by AllenPapapetrou »

Is it possible?

If possible, can anyone explain how to do this?

Thanks,

Allen

Not possible.

Maybe only possible if you format, I haven't tried.

I'm happy with my Froyo betas for the past month and a half. And 2.0.54 seems to work great for me.

You can get the 1.0.84 firmware here. I imagine you can just run that on the A70 to downgrade.
I followed the same idea when I downgraded to 1.0.70 to test some stuff.

Note: All the officially released firmwares (the ones listed on the firmware change log) can be downloaded from Archos. Just change the version number in the link.

Thanks Charbax :)

Until we have any easy Market apk and an Archos approved Flash I'll stay with 1.0.84. I'm in no hurry and if past history holds true we could be seeing another FW from Archos even before we see Flash.

just download the new Vending.apk from my quote below, and replace the one in market.rar from the top quote. follow the rest of those instructions and you'll be all set.

I recommend downloading gmail and any other google apps you want through the updated market after installing, as those included in market.rar are all old (2.1)

edit: all i believe you really need to do is create the folders, copy the newer Vending.apk to it, and reboot. I don't know what else in market.rar is necessary but those instructions worked for me so i included them.
cajl wrote:1. - install Appslib from archos site
2. - install Terminal emulator from Appslib
3. - uncompress the market.rar on your pc (in c:\market) for example url from the market.rar http://dl.free.fr/hR3wuEujb
4. - plug Gen8 device in USB (without USB development option)
5. - copy the directory market on the Gen8 device on the root directory
6. - unplug the device
7. - launch Terminal Emulator
8. - type "cd data/test"
9. - "mkdir -p froyo/system/app"
10. - "cd froyo/system/app"
11. - "cp /sdcard/market/*.apk ."
12. - "ls -l" to check that all the apk are here
13. - reboot and enjoy

thanks GILSKEN

i copied the vending.apk out of my 2.2 Evo and followed the directions again, this time only copying that specific apk after deleting the existing one. now browsing downloading installing from the market no crashes, so a new vending.apk is your solution.

well whaddaya know , it seems some nice fella uploaded the proper vending.apk here:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/7d7j8z

definitely wasn't me, just replace the one from your existing "market" folder. it should be 900+kb(new) vs 600+kb(old)
it really was very easy to do, and is working flawlessly. I'm normally not one for hacked together solutions, but this works great!

Too much work for me. I've got more productive stuff to do with my A70 until Archos GIVES us Flash.

I try to do that on my 101 but it seems not possible, even after format. Really need an easy way to get Market back.

I wish there was a downgrade option. I could careless about Flash. I'd prefer not to have to constantly temp root my device to get the cpu to run at normal speeds. (Temp rooting also seems to play havoc with my apps so they have a 50/50 chance of not working or just locking up the system entirely. If I don't root everything works fine but with an underclocked cpu.)

I know on nexus if you want to downgrade to certain firmware you have to name it passimg. Zip.

Isit possible that the archos tablets have a similar function that will bypass the hardware version check?

Looks like there is no such option so far, only way seems to be to install the SDE: http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/arc ... -54-a.html
