Time to say goodbye...

Post by GeoD »

I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 for $179.99 from BestBuy. I have graduated to the wonderful world of a capacitive screen, non-buggy OS (firmware), ultra reliable performance, and an overall fantastic product. My only regret is the Galaxy Player wasn't available a year ago. It would have saved me $235 and the purchase of an inferior Archos product. I will never buy another Archos product ever again. Their product quality, performance and customer support is utter crap. Hopefully they take some notes from Samsung and improve their company. The Galaxy Player is everything the Archos Tablets are not. I am only speaking about their Gen8 products.

Thank you everyone on this forum for your great advice, tips, and tricks. Hopefully I was able to contribute to the forum in a positive way over the past year. Fortunately, it's time to say goodbye. Take care and best of luck with your Archos products.

p.s. as soon as I clear my 43IT it will be
available for $100 + S&H. I would record
me smashing it but I paid too much for it
and it does function at a mediocre level.

Another goodbye as well...

I just upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S3.

Feels pretty much the same as an Archos 43 paired via bluetooth DUN to my phone. Nearly identical weight/dimensions. Even the Archos case fits the S3. But I get an upgrade to a much better screen, upgrade to capacitive screen, upgrade to a blazingly fast processor, etc, etc.

I loved the Archos while I had it, but technology passed it by, and DUN was removed from Archos's later generation devices making me need a smartphone. I'm giving the 43 to my 6-year-old as an Angry Birds player now.

Time to say goodbye...

I have an Archos 43 and to be honest the screen is terrible, they should have put in a capacitive touch screen instead of a resistive screen. I find the resistive screens hard to use without a stylus.

I think Archos made a big mistake putting in a resistive screen.

My A43 is still in use and I just bought a 32 GB uSDHC card so it can hold more movies. It's perfect entertainment for long flights and you have the internet and Skype at your destination. When Archos didn't offer a G9 device in this size I tried Xperia Neo and Arc S phones as replacements. They have capacitive touch screens but in the 4 inch size resistive screens and a stylus work the best. Fingers leave grease on the Xperia screens and are just too fat for accuracy.

I disagree. I think the best thing about these little gadgets is the resistive screen. I want to use a stylus (I use a spare one from the DS) as it is so much faster and more accurate than trying to use a finger on the small screen. I have a little Samsung capacitive touch screen phone and hate it.
