Price Changes for A43, A70 and A101 on Archos.com

Post by bhmm »

It seems they have decide to make a little more money on us....

Now the A43 has an 8gb for 199.00 and 16gb 269.00.
A70 8gb 299.00 and 250 at 369.00
A101 8G for 329 and 16gb for 369.00

I hate this...just when I was going to replace my faulty 101. I guess I will go elswhere or stay away.

I am reminded of the old joke whose punchline was something like "...well, when we haven't got any, our prices are cheap as well"

Seriously though, if your A101 is faulty, surely it is still covered by warranty OR have you found it necessary to install the (warranty busting) SDE in an attempt to work around a deficiency in advertised capability?

The price rise does suggest Archos are looking to maximise returns of some kind - rather than the RMA type.

Returned it, got refund with the goal to repurchase since they did not have it at the time from the first available merchant.
Repurchesed the 16gb this time from B&H but running into bluetooth tethering issue with it. At the same time my A43 connecting at the fist try..the A101 would not at all. The old 8Gb A101 connected just fine. This one I have to try 5, 6, 7 times....even 10 times.

Same phone I've used before on A70, A101, ...So returning the 16gb A101 to B&H...and was going to buy from Archos.com since I do have a discount code.

Well, I instead just place an order from Amazon. ...for the old price on the 8gb version...

If anybody want to purchase my discount code for $40 trhu paypal ...let me know. I got it from a member from this community for the same price. It gives you 25% off on your total order. handy with the new prices.

That's... bizarre. I can understand retailers' prices fluctuating to wring a few bucks out of a shortage, but the official site of the provider doing a price bump is unusual (and six months after product launch too, when many of us are talking about what the next gen might be and expecting this generation to be history in the somewhat-near future.)

NOTE: Even the A28 got a price jump to 119, now they can't brag about having a sub-$100 device (which was a big bulletpoint in the press when they launched, though it doesn't matter so much anymore.) I wonder if maybe it's a problem with a parts supplier? The 7HT and upcoming 10HT look to be priced steadily.

Nice. This means that my 101 just went up in value for ebay.

Ditto. And think how it may be unpaid "us" on this forum that make their products workable for many consumers rather than returned in droves. Oh well, we help ourselves in the process too.

Archos stock price recently about doubled, so they don't seem to be financially struggling as in the past. Mostly from a jump on friday - maybe that's when they decided a price rise was feasible? The answer is probably in the French forum covering their stock - anybody translate the gist? http://www.boursorama.com/forum-archos-1rPJXR-1 ...Archos in blue, apple in green, averages in red:

Maybe it is simply currency exchange rate and increasing transport costs due to fuel prices?

Just a thought

I think the Q4 figures were leaked before the official press release: http://www.archos.com/corporate/investo ... 011_en.pdf

┬À Increase in annual turnover 2010: + 44%
┬À Revenues in the fourth quarter + 120% (Q4 2009 vs Q4 2010)
┬À Fifth consecutive quarter of growth

Financialy Archos is doing very good at the moment!

Wow, I didn't know that Archos was doing so well financially. I might have to give it consideration next time I have money to dump in a stock. I definately like what they are doing! :D

Hasn't hit any of the brick and mortar stores yet. J and R and B&H prices still the same.
Maybe the tablet PC craze got people interested in Archos.

.
I actually think as Viking has said, its all of US that has made the interest in Archos.

But dont get me wrong here, I think we got a good deal even if it was not an A+ device when WE bought it.

Ya have to remember, if we want to keep them producing good kit...... ;)

That's without VAT. VAT is for the government, so can't be part of the revenue for Archos.

But even at 20% VAT USA would still be less than half of Europe.

So even though the cost is 20% more in Europe they're still buying more Archos products.

Verry interestink...

I just think it's ironic that this forum of self helpers (from both the US and Europe) may have priced themselves out of the market of a second or replacement gen8 by their very efforts of making gen8 more consumer friendly. I can only hope Archos makes the cost reduced Rockchip a101 available cheap.

Yo viking who says we're even going to see Archos acknowledge the A101 HT?

Their web site doesn't even distinguish between the 7HT Version 1 and Version two. Finally, Amazon USA does and V2 is less expensive than V1.

What is going on Archos?

It's all confusing to me the way Archos is doing business. confusion...betwen all their products. Now we have Arnova by Archos., E-readers, Gen8, Rockship A101, Home tablet,...very confusing all this. Never seen such a mess from another company.

I find there is and has been a disconnect with their web site since first aware of Archos (2006) Promise one thing, deliver another. Leave specs in place after proven wrong. There is a definite disconnect between the support section and the marketing section.
Your reference to the two versions of 7 or there is no reference to the 48 at all in the support section are good examples. I have not gone to the FTP site. I have not purchased the 48 (Nor plan to), but it is sold but never referenced anywhere. It is only the 5 that you find detail.

Their competition is milking the market for all its worth since the iPad is the market leader AND premium priced. Archos is just getting with the game ;)
