please test our tool to split large video files for gen8
Hello,
We have made a tool that takes large video files (>4GB) and splits them into smaller parts that can be played back seamlessly on gen8 devices. The tool is available here:
http://www.archos.com/support/support_t ... gb&lang=en
Select your OS on that page, or select the link below:
Windows: ftp://support.archos.com/Generation_8/w ... ansfer.exe
Mac: ftp://support.archos.com/Generation_8/m ... ansfer.dmg
Linux: ftp://support.archos.com/Generation_8/l ... fer.tar.gz

Re: please test our tool to split large video files for gen8
how about you just enable extX support so this is unnecessary and we avoid one step???
Re: please test our tool to split large video files for gen8
it is still needed for e.g. users with a 250GB A70Htheyownus wrote:how about you just enable extX support so this is unnecessary and we avoid one step???

Re: please test our tool to split large video files for gen8
Not sure what happened, but i wasn't able to fit the video i tested on the my 8gig card so it was a partial copy.
Does all the videos have to be in the same card? because when i tried playing it, the scrubber, forward, and back were disabled. Resume doesn't seem to work either.
Again, this is an incomplete copy, hopefully someone there with a bigger sd card can try it. The biggest i have on hand is 8gigs.

yes, you need all the parts to make the video play correctly, the single parts cannot be played standalone...Hajile_Ibushi wrote:Not sure what happened, but i wasn't able to fit the video i tested on the my 8gig card so it was a partial copy.

Re: please test our tool to split large video files for gen8
i've just tested a basic split mkv file using a free small basic 30kb filesplitter and renamed to movie.mkv, movie.mkv.2, movie.mkv.3 and it works fine. I assume this tool does nothing but split the file and renames them to this format?
better idea would be to reintroduce ext3 support into the 2.2 rom and/or (the better option for everyone) implement exFat or NTFS

yes, this is exactly how the splitter worksgibbon wrote:i've just tested a basic split mkv file using a free small basic 30kb filesplitter and renamed to movie.mkv, movie.mkv.2, movie.mkv.3 and it works fine. I assume this tool does nothing but split the file and renames them to this format?

Re: please test our tool to split large video files for gen8
quite impressed that the player still allows you to skip through the video still given that you usually have to run something like MKVToolnix to split it so that it recreates all the keyframes etc. i'm sure playing those files on different players (seperately) you wouldnt be able to do that.
i feel for the 250gb users though if they cant transfer large files over to it (without splitting).. a bit harsh.
is there any plans at all to implement ntfs/exfat or reintroduce ext3 into the 2.2 rom (was the omission just a mistake?)

This app looks awesome. I just select the 32GB MicroSD in the A43 as "transfer destination", drag and drop as many MKV movies I want, and it automatically starts to transfer them. I'm eager to actually test them all out on HDTV and report results together with the media infos.

yeah just need it to transcode the audio at the same time from ac3 to mp3 so that it can play our hd vid files which are the ones which are going to be >4gb to start with.

Re: please test our tool to split large video files for gen8
.
Sorry, but is it just me... This 'General Public' group of Gen 8 devices is looking harder to come to terms with (insofar the 'get it workin') than the original Archos 'Techno orientated' Gen 7 devices.
Maybe just me........
