I want it but no 2.2 out of the box may just be a deal breaker for me. Well, see how things look on the tablet front come November. To be clear, however, the Archos 70 is still first on my list.

I'd be happy to get mine with 2.1 now... I was surprised how responsive the 7 was with 2.1 remembering the difference from my Moto Droids running 2.1 vs. 2.2 now it will be like giving myself 2 presents in the same year maybe :)

Charbax is just Too Excited but with good reason as it looks to me like Archos succeeded with making a winner here...

THANX Charbax!

Charbax, thanks much for all you do... The site, videos and of course getting an early look at this awesome device. Looking forward to any additional info you might pick up but mostly getting my hands on one of these. I note that it seems to operate pretty crisp, which is no surprise. What a great time. Froyo is trickling out to international versions of my phone and Archos looks like they are near to release. Looks like Christmas is coming early this year, and for me twice!
=D>

Any idea if the 70 and 101 will be released separately or together?

I'll ask Archos by Monday or so. I think the US FCC may be good guideline for when the products are ready to be released. A70 SSD version was at the FCC first, followed a bit later by A70 HDD version and 101 is not yet in the FCC. Usually the FCC should get the certification published around 2 weeks before broad release.

I think you got it the other way around. the 101 hit 1st followed by the 70 stuff in the order you have it.

anyhow nice video. i like the fact you probably unintended showed the viewing angles. much better than the still photos and the stuff shown a while back.

now why can't I buy it yet?

OK then they might kind of all get released at the same time. Of course logistics for manufacturing and shipping from the factory, timing for the stable production software (preferably 2.2 and perfect hardware accelerated sync in camcorder videos) and availability of shelf space at major retailers might be part of how they schedule the launch.

So would thins possibly mean that the US versions of the A101s may not make the Nov 1st date either??

Thanks. I'll be watching. I'm thinking I'll get both but I would be happy to have the 70 first. 8)

Thanks Charbax.

It's understandable that you don't like the backlit screen for ebook reading. But many of us spend a lot of reading time on such screens anyway so can you give us some idea of how bad/good this one is - how glossy, or matte, resolution, viewing options...

The Archos 101 hit FCC on Sept 21st:

and 70 was at FCC 2 weeks later...

Anyways, this confirms it. even with 2.1 it works really fast. Since I'm not gonna run a bunch of apps all the time it's gonna be even faster experience for me. I'm looking mostly for web and video device so it will be just great.

Tnx Charbax for make that 1.5-2 hours trip to the Fedex and back and all live streaming :)

Crashing of that live video fas probably due unstable app I think.

Tnx again for all you efforts, looking forward watching new reviews and pictures.

Great video, thank you charbax for alleviating a little the pain of waiting for these devices!

The device looks great!
- screen is excellent, with good response and GREAT viewing angles
- applications run fast and switch without a hiccup (@rushmore: it looks like the RAM isn't a problem)
- video runs better and faster than anything I have seen
Overall: I WANT IT! Badly!!!

I have some questions/requests:
- does the device also charge (trickle charge) when connected by USB to a PC?

- can you please install Dolphin Browser HD and do some tests?
* Menu -> Settings -> User Agent : iPad
* then visit the Gmail mobile site; does it display like on the iPad? http://a.fsdn.com/gc/wp-content/uploads ... 80x392.png

* Settings -> Full screen mode
* load some tabs, wait for them to fully load, pull down from the top of the page (like pulling the notification bar which is not visible); you should see all your tabs loaded; how smooth is it?

TIA.

i have a question for charbax involving the Archos 70 with Hard drive - which isn't tested by anyone so far - .... Well, the question is simple: Android 2.2 new features include the possibility to install apps and games on MicroSD cards, but i what about to possibility to install on the hard drive memory of Archos 70 ??

I think nz said the 250GB hard drive is recognized as one big MicroSD card, so you can install as many apps on that as you want. Some apps still need certain amount to be stored in the ROM though, so it will depend how that is buffered by software how much space you can really use for apps.
