Archos 7HT - Video across wifi...

Hi all!

New to the Archos 7 forums, just lost the use of my 605 wifi (very sad!), so ordered a new 7HT (should be with me tomorrow by 1pm if amazon stick to their promise!!)

What i wanted to know was - what is the difference between the 7HT and the 7IT? And most importantly...with the 605 Wifi i could connect to my home network, then in the file browser access my movies on my pc, then play them straight from there - no problems. I assumed the 7HT would be the very same...however reading a few worrying things here and there which say the 7HT doesnt in fact allow playing movies across the network!!

Please someone....say it aint so!!!!

It ain't so. For one, try ES File Explorer.

i had spotted someone mentioning es fe - but they had issues with file types? generally speaking if a file is compatible with the 7HT - will es play it? also if it uses its own video player - is the quality as good as the 7HT's own player?

ES file explorer doesn't work for watching videos over wifi! Alen which one are you using?

i have used es file explorer on my htc fone - and it can indeed view video across wifi - but only mp4 (in the case of the htc). so is this a restriction of the app, or a restriction of the htc? in other words, will the 7HT only play mp4 via es file explorer, or will it play avi etc?

The video player is built into ES FE so there's where this restriction lies.

hmm mp4 isnt really much of an option, id need at least standard avi support. other options seem to be the orb approach which ive tried - but not at all good enough, any other things to try??

thanks chris, would that allow a network share to act as a local drive? sounds interesting! i gather i would have to install a different firmware to allow this?

had a look at that sticky chris, forgive my ignorance but i have no clue what is being talked about - or rather i do - but no idea how to do it lol where can i find the required firmware and module, how do i install them?

Hi gsteruk,

The obvious rooted firmware to use would be himself's version

The 0.27 Yar version is based on the new update
and can be downloaded from the site http://www.a7ht.co.cc

WARNING
check out the instructions for installation they can be found in the wiki on this site.

for 0.27 YAR - by himself - rooted with increased space very stable
