Performance Index

Post by Papo »

My Archos 9 Performance index is as follows:

Processor: 1.7
Memory: 1.9
Graphics: 2.9
Gaming: 2.4
Hard Disk: 4.1

Is anyoneÔÇÖs different than above? Also, was wondering, for those who replaced the HD for SSD, is performance index any different?

I don't think that would make a big difference, the device would be faster but the graphics won't be any better I think.

I'm curious to find out though. Those users that replace the HD with an SSD claimed the PC runs much faster, so something must change to make it faster. At least the HD performance index must be higher. Is that's the case, then it would indicate that the current hard drive specs are too slow for the system. Of course, that would depend on how big of a change there is. If there's no change in the performance index, then access time from the HD will be the same as before, which would mean that spending the extra cash for an SSD would not be worth it.

Very likely, Hard Disk index will exceed 4.1 with an SSD.
However, global index will remain at 1.8/1.7 (which is processor index - lowest value).

This being said, Windows index is not an absolute measurement. It only gives some directions.
A faster drive will give a better experience, but not all operating conditions require frequent drive access, and in this case, no improvement.

Z515
Windows Ultimate with Aero on
Latest drivers (from Archos.com)
4GB 'Readyboost' on 8GB Class 6 MicroSDHC in a USB reader [http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=29091]
Everything else stock

Processor: 1.8
Memory: 1.9
Graphics: 2.9
Gaming: 3.4 ? I wonder why my rating is so much higher?
Hard disk: 4.1

[edit]
I re-ran the assessment 3 times to make sure it wasn't an error.
I definitely get 3.4 under gaming. O.o
I also unplugged the SDHC to see if the Readyboost caused the difference, but it had no effect on the results...
