sorry, missed that question..

I can su, and btw you don't need to tell me the full procedure, "can you su" would have been sufficient :-)

Thanks! I guess this must be because the 1.6 firmware is a development version which was mentioned in another thread. Have you tried running su from a shell on the tablet (e.g. Better Terminal Emulator or Connectbot)?

Doesn't work right away:

Code: Select all

su:uid 10036 not allowed to su
I'll see if I can give the right to su to this user.

I first added the udev rules as indicated somewhere else, then added 0x0e79 in ~/.android/adb_usb.ini, and voila:

Code: Select all

[email protected] ~/Archos/android-sdk-linux_86/tools $ ./adb devices
List of devices attached
A5S-64AA0004-00000000-040364FE-16020009 device

gentoo, kernel 2.6.31, x64, and firmware 1.6 on the archos

Hi, did you create adb_usb.ini ? can you post your content please? thanks

Hi, I don't remember if it existed already (it's in ~/.android/ ), to generate it you can run android update adb. Then just add 0x0e79 at the end. Replacing /path/to/etc.. by the path to the tools subdirectory in your adb directory in the following commands and running them should do:

Code: Select all

cd /path/to/your/adb/directory/then/tools/subdirectory
./android update adb
echo "0x0e79" >> ~/.android/adb_usb.ini

Ooops forgot to post the content:

Code: Select all

[email protected] ~ $ cat .android/adb_usb.ini
# ANDROID 3RD PARTY USB VENDOR ID LIST -- DO NOT EDIT.
# USE 'android update adb' TO GENERATE.
# 1 USB VENDOR ID PER LINE.

Maybe it's obvious, but on Debian I had to create ~/.android/adb_usb.ini for root account.

Code: Select all

su
cd /path/to/your/adk/directory/then/tools/subdirectory
./android update adb
echo "0x0e79" >> ~/.android/adb_usb.ini
cd /path/to/your/adk/directory/then/platform-tools/subdirectory
./adb kill-server
./adb start-server
