I know what you mean, I've had quite a few Archos devices over the past years and I'm not expecting a flawless device at all.

Just make sure you don't wipe the archos with a cloth, it's been known to crash the system.

I also heard if you sneeze while holding it, the HDD will reformat itself.

Noreve is working on a case. Some pictures of 160GB and 32GB prototype cases are pictured on Archos Lounge:

I would have wiped off the fingerprints on the screen, though!

Hi, there.

I've just got mine today...It lasted for 3 hours!!!

I was moving some music from my PC to the 5IT and..booom!!
It turned off and now there's no way to turn it on....it's DEAD!!!

Too bad! Tomorrow I'll send it to Archos....

By the way, the metal back cover got damn hot after a little while...

Maybe that was the problem....

Regards.

You ran out of battery. Charge it for a while and it'll come back to life.

hahahahahaha... thats some funny shit ...

You are supposed to charge the device before use.... if the battery completely drains .. the player will not respond at all till it is charged for a few minutes.

I'm an idiot!!! You're right! I charged it and now it's back!! Sorry for bothering....

But know I have a couple questions:

1) I charged it using my HTC HERO Power Adapter (5 V. outputs). After 8 hours the battery led isn't blinking...anything wrong? Can I use my Hero or my IPhone USB power adapter?

2) It ran out of power while connected to the USB port. What does it mean? It can't get enough power out of USB ports? Did it happen because it was the very first time that I used it? What about if I need to move 160 GB of music from my PC..It's gonna take 5-6 hours..should I do it "litlle by little" because of the "power problem"?

I'm from Italy. I've got the 5IT 500 GB from an Italian on line store...

Thanks in advance.

It takes a hell of a lot of time to charge using usb.... for way faster charging you can get a minidock, battery dock or DVR Station ... all of which have adapters.

cell phone mini-USB adapters usually have very low amphere (current) rating and it will take very long to charge using them.... a computers usb port might be a better option. The archos device needs to be switched on in order to charge and hence some of the power is used to keep the device in its charging state.... If you are using the player and/or transferring data at the same time ... you are actually using more power than the usb is feeding the device ... that's why the battery got drained.

The archos has a much larger battery than a cell phone and hence requires more charging and more current. Once fully charged it should run about 7 hours with constant use ...accord to me.

You need to attach the USB cable while the device is still operatiing, then turn it off via the button.
The power drawn from USB will then be used fully for charging and not most of it for powering the device.
If you have the unit turned off and plug in USB at that point, then the unit will boot up and run, thus resulting in very slow charging (if any) if you keep it on. Best seems to get the Docking Station, just drop it in to charge via a bottom connector,
apparently more efficient.

Got my 500gb today. Was very tempted to start using it, but turned it off and having been waiting for it to fully charge off my labtop usb for hours.
