Post by dbn045 »

You know all those games available for the archos 5 at
http://www.archos.com/products/imt/arch ... en&p=games

Well I was wondering since the archos 5 is now hacked and all the plug ins work whats stopping the games from working?

I'm terribly sorry that it took me so long to come back to this thread, but I had to fend of an very nasty Denial-of-Service attack comming from the warez-server at 127.0.0.1 - They apparently don't like being linked to... :|

Some games might need additional files to work properly - e.g. ScummVM needs the files of LucasArts games, duke3d will probably need some level files or openredalert might need some files from the original game, though there is an package redalert-demo-gamedata so some game play should work directly. Often there are communities around those games that produce their own levels and offer them for free download.
A lot to explore and try. If something doesn't work right away - try Google or open an thread on this open development forum.
Everybody is also invited to provide some feedback on the packages they tried on our wiki: http://dev.openaos.org/wiki/WorkingPackages

Bootnote: Not all games might work equally well. If you find one that doesn't feel free to report it on our issue tracker: http://dev.openaos.org/wiki/IssueTracking
ScummVM is high on the things to try list for me, as I have original Lucas Arts games and still love the game-play!

You chose one of the more complicated setups.
I tried it here. I can get duke3d to start after copying in the duke3d.grp and the *.con files from testfiles and creating an duke3d.cfg in ~/.duke3d/ . But it only displays two blank screens in blue, fades between them and then segfaults. No idea why. Might just be an issue with the config-file I downloaded.

Update got it working. was bad CON files. used the ones that came with the game. Make sure you set the game resolution to 800x480 or lower! The game runs fine though on my A5IT at full resolution. Sound looks like it should work but I can't hear anything right now. Probably just an config issue. USB-keyboard is a must.

COME GET SOME!

HAIL TO THE KING BABY!

ok, in the end it's quite easy:
I need those files to start the game through the desktop icon (it's located in "other"):

Code: Select all

~/DEFS.CON
~/DUKE3D.GRP
~/GAME.CON
~/USER.CON
~/.duke3d/duke3d.cfg
tip: ~ stands for the users home directory, e.g. /home/user

Hi all,
I installed Visual Boy Advanced (through opkg.org) for the old times glory. The problem is (when started through games menu), it won't start at all. The message is:Enlightenment can't launch the application vba-menu.py
When running through terminal, it won't find the rom located in /home/user. The message is: Error loading [rom]. I even run VisualBoyAdvance with a non existing rom and still getting the same message. It seem it can't find it at all.

Running on A5IMT Spz0 E17 first release (And i'd like to thank you for your great work :) . It's very user friendly and usable).

Any clue about it?
Did anyone try it?

PS: Sorry for any grammatical mistakes in the post. English is not my native language.

Sadly this is quite often where the problem starts. opkg.org is a neat idea, but many packages are provided without source code (which then also violates FOSS licenses).

That's also why I prefer to stay with the angstrom tree and if necessary create build recipes and merge them with the openaos overlay.

Sounds like it might also be a missing dependency, you could try and strace it to see what exactly fails before it spews out that message.

Cheers

prepend the "strace" command on the command line. But if you never used it before you might have trouble with that.

I might take a look myself later.
