I have had my archos about six years so I assume the battery is dead. When I plug it in to USB I get a flashing red light on HDD and the green archos logo comes up. It never comes on and after a few minutes the green logo goes off also. Does anyone know if it's a battery problem or hard drive problem. I used it a lot so I can't imagine the battery would last over six years. Any help much appreciated.
You don't say which model, but generally speaking archos' need a working battery to boot even when plugged into the charger. If your battery is 6 years old, good chance a lithium cell is dead. Can you feel the hard drive trying to spin, even for a second? If so I would risk trying a new battery. If it's the hard drive it will be a wasted 20 quid, but if it isn't you still have some years of use left.
It's the 504 model. I will boot it up and will try to hear it spin. A battery on Ebay is $25 so yeah, don't want to waste money. Thanks.
Now it's completely dead, won't turn on at all, not even with usb.
Anybody know what I should do?
Only way to see if it's working is a good battery I'm afraid, unless you take the hard drive out and try it in a 2.5 enclosure or usb to ide cable.
Thanks, I'll look for a cable.
