can archos 604 play x264 .mp4 and .avi

hello, iam just trying to figure out if the archos 604 is actually able to play these formats.. x264 (as .mp4 or .avi). Many thanks for ur help.

Yes, it can play h264 and aac sound up to dvd resolution, but you have to buy the plug in to enable the software. There are 2 plugins, the other one is for mpeg2 dvd files with ac3 sound. If you look on ebay there were sellers still offering plugins at around £15 for both.
