Apple and the other big boys in electronics use tier 1 builders.
They also pay a lot of money to the builders, who want to keep their business.

When you build a small number of deviced, cut costs to the bone-you don't get the same treatment as Apple, Microsoft, Dell, etc.

My friend to the North-you can't get them in the USA either.
Archos(a French company, by the way) is not doing large enough production runs to keep up with demand.

Be patient or look for something else.

Archos does not build them, they are manufactured in China.
Archos receives them boxed up and they sit in a warehouse.
Archos does not open each box and inspect them.
Any quality control is done in China at the factory.

You want low prices, quality suffers.

No, there is no paid activation.
The seller is scamming you.

The only paid for thing is a codec pack to playback mpeg2 video.
This is optional and is done by you through the archos site only if you want it.
It is not mandatory or necessary.

Wish android supported html5 better-CNN videos work perfectly on my iPad.

On archos-mobile site videos look horrible, very pixellated.
Full version site, video playback is jerky.
I am using the droid x version of flash.

So far, flash experience is pretty bad.

The virwing angles are fine on the 70.
There is some weirdness in the up down angles.

It will vary with screen brightness,wifi/blue tooth on,etc.
Generally for video I get about six hours.

There has not been, nor is there now an official archos flash player avsilable.
If you need flash that badly, install the market hack and install the generic version or search the forum for the droidx version.

I preordered from amazon.
price was $277. Three days later they shipped.

Price was about same as other sites, until i saw they were charging $15-$25 for shipping at the other sites while amazon shipping was free.

I just stick with amazon, direct from amazon, usually can't go wrong.

I have to agree with their analysis, for the price point it really can't be beat.
