Re: Skype for Android

Excellent. I have been waiting for this. Except now, it's another reason to buy the new Archos 43 or 70. Thank you skype. Fring just doesn't work smoothly for me.

Re: A5it vs n810

I have an N800, and an A5android. The A5 is much better for web browsing and the bigger screen makes a very big difference, a real pleasure to use. But I do still go back to the N800. The N800 is much more linux-feeling, which is good and bad. Some typical linux applications run on it (like gnumeric...

Re: Blackberry Playbook

It is too early to tell, but from the specs released, I am interested. The screen resolution is what I had hoped for in the Archos 70. Lots of RAM, tethering. Can't wait for a review.

1) my ibm t60, running xp, doesn't want to recognize the it5 :( Did you Read The Fine Manual? If you only tried to access the A5A as a memory device, that won't work with regular XP, you need a driver for ext2 file system. You should be able to synchronize music though, but it depends on which mode...

Re: Anyone have any luck getting Google Sky Maps working?

Well, since the A5A doesn't have a compass, it's not going to work that way. But if you can tell which direction is North, you can probably figure out the rest. I generally lie down on the ground, hold the A5A above my head and rotate the image until it matches what I'm seeing in the sky above me. ...

Re: Anyone have any luck getting Google Sky Maps working?

But what do you mean by "it works". I can get it to run, and show me cool star maps. But I think it requires a compass to know where you point it. I'd like to really use it to point it at a star and identify the star.

Re: smart sd card updating

I haven't checked the manual or the wiki, but what I remember is that it has to be in the home directory, so I assume this mean no, not on the SD card. You could insert the SD card, and run the file manager, and copy the firmware update to the home directory on the internal memory. That would do it.

Cell phone companies with lots of development money are having trouble getting FroYo updates out. I'm just happy to get an android 2.2 device. I wouldn't call it a fail.

Re: Curious -- where are a5it folks going to in gen 8

For me personally, I really wanted a screen slightly bigger than my A5IT. But the A5IT had all the features I wanted, so I bought it. Then the A7HT came out, but since it was a low-end spec, I stayed with the A5. So I think I'll go with the Archos 7 0 . But I do wish it had a bit higher resolution f...

Re: Archos File Transfers on Linux Not Working:-(

I'm seeing something similar, using Fedora 12. Mine does not time out though. When I copy videos to the A5, the first ~ 30MB goes very fast. Then it seems a buffer has filled up, and it dribbles the rest in small pieces, about 1 MB, pause, 1 MB pause. Etc. until the file is finished. But at least it...

Re: My comparison of the Archos to the Ipod Touch

nice comparison. one comment, you have the screen of the 4 3 as 800x480, but the archos site says 854x480. Yes that is correct. Thanks for pointing that out. This whole thing started as an e-mail to my friend. Then I turned it into a website because some other people were interested. I guess this i...

Re: Archos says: The A5A lives!

So, the A4 8 IT will have the hi-res screen of the new A4 3 ? That would be nice. I would like a 5" screen, but of the new models, the A4 3 looks like the best specs, especially with the high pixel count at 854x480 (FWVGA? what's that? f-ing wide VGA?) . I'm wondering why the A7o is downgraded to on...

Jaleh, which device do you have?? The Archos 5 IMT is not the same as the Archos 5 with Android. This is the Android forum, so if you have the IMT, asking in that forum might help.

Good step-by-step instructions jaybob, and thanks for putting this back on-topic. :-> One change to the instructions, since this is linux , the CD drive will not be "E:". It will be called something like "/dev/sdb1", or, on my ubuntu it is "/media/cdrom". Or, you may not need to know the exact devic...

Do you have WINE running in Fedora? I haven't tried the GPS install program that way, but many windows program do run under wine. It's worth a try.
