Re: charging the archos without usb
Two things: -- All USB chargers are 5 volts. It's the volts that determine how fast it charges (and the smart charge circuitry). Yes, various cell phone chargers have higher ratings in milliamps. But that's their maximum amp rating. The charger is capable of more milliamps, but the Archos won't allo...

Re: Palm Grafitti on Android
This is great news. And it's version 1, before Xerox messed up Palm's version with their ridiculous suit. I don't have any major problem using the pop-up keyboard, but I always felt felt fast and accurate with graffiti.

Re: Picture difference between Archos 5 32GB and my Nokia n8
I also own both (N800 and A5A). Both have excellent screens, and the brightness setting on both strongly affects my impression of the colors. I haven't done side-by-side comparisons with the same web page like you mention, to say one is more saturated. I do prefer the A5A screen though, because of t...

Re: Definate problem with HDMI on 2.0.15....any ideas?
So for the few months since I got my A5A 500 gb, I've had absolutely no problems using the A5 IMT DVR dock + HDMI output. Fast forward to 2.0.15 and now I can't get HDMI working anymore! (snip) Does anyone else have this problem or a potential solution? I noticed that 2.0.15 introduced a new proces...

Re: Bluetooth tether from windows 7?
I like the Linux tethering, because, at work, the wireless is locked down. But I do have an Ubuntu box there, that I can then connect the A5A to using this technique. It's not ideal, but it's a live connection.

Re: Volume Booster
What you wrote is generally true, tomsje, but there are good quality headphones that have high gain/low ohms settings. I use Bose noise canceling, and they have 2 settings. Using the high gain setting, the sound is loud and still good quality. (at least, to my ears it's good quality, that's a differ...

Re: google voice
Well, Skype does support incoming calls (Skype-In). SkypeIn lets you pick from a list of "land line" telephone numbers, similar to how GoogleVoice does.
I don't know if that means it will work with GoogleVoice though.

Re: Problem with HDMI dock
What firmware are you using on the A5A? When I switch back from 720p to the A5A screen, I see the same corrupt screen lines, but only for about 1 second, and then I get the normal screen, crisp and clear. I'm using firmware 2.0.15. One difference is that I am only using a computer screen with HDMI, ...

Re: internal speaker issue after update to 2.xx
Firmware 2.xx has been working for me with mp4 videos. The videos I watch are short though, I don't watch full length movies on the A5A.

Re: tethering via bluetooth
Which firmware are you using? My tethering works fine with most versions, but I don't have to enter a phone number. I believe the DUN function has been re-enabled with the latest firmware released this week.

Re: Need help with tethering. Absolute n00b.
I have to say, I needed a complete reset (settings- about device - repair and formatting - full reinitialization) before tethering worked for me. Yes, it may be extreme, but that's what it took for me. I knew tethering would work, my friend had an A5 android, and I tethered it before I would buy min...

Re: Leaving the Archos in a plugged in Battery Dock
I'd like to emphasize the advice given. "Draining" your battery - to me - means running it down to zero. That's what I did in the old days with my (shudder) NiCd batteries. The lithium batteries should not go to zero. They "prefer" to go to 40%.
