Re: Phone jack - solved

Owkay, pulled out the rubber caps over de screws, unscrewed all 4 screws, but for the love of god, i can't seem to get the 2 metal halves apart... Pushing the paper clip in the hole and prying the pieces apart with my thumb nail doesn't work, and i highly doubt you need to stick a paperclip in all 6...

Re: Phone jack - solved

Ow man! I'm so glad somebody took the time to look and repair! My A5 60GB is headphoneless too! I'm going on a vacation this Friday and i would really like to listen to music and watch movies during the flight... I'm an electronics engineer with a lot of soldering experience. Do you think i could op...

Re: Power Off vs. Suspend

windows Sleep keeps information stored in RAM, and keeps RAM / USB / Network yada yada powered.

Hibernate stores RAM information on hard disk, so nothing has to be powered. I guess this is what Archos 5 does with suspend

How do you organize your music/videos?

Hey guys, I was just interested in how everybody aroganizes their music. Here my set-up of music organization: Music > Artist - Year - Album > Artist - Album - Track# - Title That seems like a lot, but it's really thought out. I want my music library arranged and music to be found as quick as possib...

Re: Power Off vs. Suspend

as a reply to Jarbi Shutdown shuts down the device completely, except for the internal clock, which uses about 50uA. This is like shutting down your computer. The only thing that stays on is the Backup Battery Votage of the motherboard. Suspend is more like a Hibernate- (maybe even sleep-) equivalen...

Re: Music Limit

@Viking As Archos have build their own ARClib "OS" around a Unix shell, they would probably know that they won't need negative numbers and use the sign bit. If they would go that far they could trick the system to 'think' it's a x64 system, and use the 64bits for 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 (18 TRILL...

Re: NEW FIRMWARE Archos 5 and Archos 7 OS v 1.6.53

@TombRaider You do know that you can set the Station Channels yourself? It's not that hard, and I see how you can be disgusted with every failure the A5 produces, but you can't expect the A5 to KNOW how you installed you settopbox... The only thing that pisses me off is that Ziggo (my digital tv com...

Re: Instructions to install the GPS for 605 on the Archos5

I've bought the white box and only got the BeNeLux maps, so i bought the european maps for 40 euros. I could download the complete DVD with new files. These files contain new icons and such. A lot of problems have also been addressed, like i can now finally use the advanced options. Downside is that...

Re: Sold my archos 5.

You never looked back, but still defend your point very agressively. You could've also said the Archos 5 is a great piece of hardware, but the customer service is bad. Now you're saying this like everything Archos does is shit. I've personally contacted Archos technical support 3 times and each time...

Re: Archos 5 Gps Canada map support

just connect your Archos5 to the computer. Navigte to the Archos 5 > GPS folder and see what files in there. Now put your DVD installer in the drive (or open the folder to which you've copied the files before if you did) and copy all files you deem needed. Just be sure to copy the map files you thin...

Oh, I'm sorry. I miss understood your point... Anyway, with copying and pasting it does work. And a bit of work to get the GPS working isn't so bad :) BTW: Have you tried the GPS software, and did you get the same errors as i did? I'm just wondering, since i've had problems with the gps software tha...

The first time i got to install the maps in the manner discussed in that other forum, it didn't show the maps either.

I then uploaded the maps maunally to the archos, straight off of the CD

Re: Archos.com Official GPS Installation for Archos 5

Well, I take it the other way around. I usually have my Archos5 with me. I can always look up where to go when walking or at home. When I'm in my car, I keep the cradle in the car (armrest between front seats), and can easily connect the Archos5 and have a GPS with me. I always take it with me, so i...

Re: GPS supporting coming in days

Wow... that's just too bad! Did you buy the GPS with USA & canada support? Because if so I just might have a european license but can only unlock benelux (if you american/canadian/etc. even use that word) right now, due to software bugs/restrictions... Btw, did your GPS install hang on the same prob...

Re: THE GPS FOR A5 and 605!!!

My XP Firefox 3.0 recognized the URL as FTP including Client / user log-in.

XP IE worked, with the username / log-in info.

Try a non-vista computer with older IE (not that i'm against Vista, i love it), but in this case just doesn't work.

It is working. Great, I might add. I've copied a couple of files, and needed to load the maps, but all in all, I had it working in half an hour. After a lot of playing with it, i tried to set it up in the car, but accidentally connected the wrong power supply :S Blew up that power suply, but the uni...

There's already a topic on this subject on the board. Please search first before starting new threads. Also: If you'd read that thread, you should know that the part of the FAQ you're referring to is already taken off-line. The other thread contains a working GPS-installer.exe file, which should mak...
