Re: Hacked Archos desktop

i think you hit on something earlier without realizing it. Whether we stay with an avos based approach, look to a new codebase or something inbetween, the key is package management. package management is what makes apple jailbreak so cool with iphone/ipod touch jailbreak a full APT system was implem...

Re: 'at midnight, and by torchlight' i present: guy fawkes hack

ext4 might work, as I understand it the reason the drive must be formatted linux is that a fat drive does not usually store permissions in the same way that ext3 does(linux) i believe the usb drive is used just as a way escalate permissions to root, but for the three seconds it takes to click ext3 v...

Re: Easy way for free web serfing!

In order to use this rather silly bit of information you MUST connect your archos to an ad hoc wireless created by a laptop...... which has a web browser..

(or redirect your dns requests from your AP.. usually requires a pc also...)

Re: Gen 5 Davinci UART0 Pinout ?

kinda like the way you flash cellphones if i understand correctly. you just need that diagnostic pins/pads for the IC's and then you force it into a bootloader state (sometimes there are special key combinations needed to enter boot mode, sometimes special diagnostic cables that short one pin to ano...

Re: So what have you done with archilles hack so far?

i havent gotten a chance to play yet, but on the 605 i assume the GFT hole is closed after the hack? as it is the upgraded firmware

i recall him saying something about gdb but maybe i probably missed something, how do we run code on 605 post hack?

edit: do we have to add it to the cramfs? or what?

ok. well I said my bit. I appreciate you at least taking the time to respond, thank you. I haven't read the various posts except the one quite interesting one between you two about the merits of archos in relation to a traditional mobile focused andriod marketplace. i mostly lurk in the hacking foru...

i think ecsw knows something but isnt ready to release yet. still milkin that cash cow. maybe pm him and ask if he thinks there will be a public release? also, archilles has indicated he will continue to look for >1.7.13 exploits, but he also has interest and has spent time hacking the newer generat...

not feasible yet. but.

that being said, ive seen more activity on the 605 in the last couple months than at any particular time since it was released. i wouldn't rule out the possibility.

Until this devolved into Ad hominem and madness i found this quite an interesting thread/debate.

Is there any indication if the archos phone will have the standard camera home etc keys so it might work with the Gstore?

Come on CHARBAX. I PERSONALLY expect better.

While I understand your posting of the 'drama' that is ARCHOS's android app store, I am frankly appalled at your use of an Archosfans.com forums members name in a negative light. Over the years that I have visited this site I have come to expect alot from you Charbax. You ARE Archosfans.com. You ARE...

Re: 'at midnight, and by torchlight' i present: guy fawkes hack

run arbitrary code:) the jailbreak is just the first step really. its taken a long time just to get the jailbreak but now is where the fun can start--think along the lines of what a iphone jailbreak does: -free games! -develop custom games -things like nes emulators -better webbrowser was one of the...

Re: be wary of firmware 1.7.13

afaik if it is making the .pdf file the GFT exploit is indeed working. try: backing up everything doing and emergency restore (search the boards, i think you hold the button too long at boot or something) re-downloading the qtopia package (or at least checking md5sums) and finally double check the s...

Re: An ultimatum for archos

if memory serves--archilles indicated that archos already patched one of the exploits that was to be released today... but, maybe 605 owners who were unfortunate enough to have upgraded will still have hope or perhaps another exploit is forthcoming? with the aos decrypting utility and openPMA's anon...

Need Help:someone with data in 605 tvguide.working on kludge

I've been poking around trying to find a way to get new tv guide data into the 605 wifi (i don't know about you guys, but I for one can't even find a way to pay archos to make this work again--i would). anyway. heres what ive found so far: if you navigate to /media/A605/System (on a ubuntu system) t...

in some thread there is the assertion made that all the archos bootloaders are similar, perhaps you could study the explanation given and source code supplied by archilles with his hack, and the discussion in another thread(which you may have to dig for) about mounting hidden partitions and reading ...
