(its just a laptop so i assume it had more to do with its power management, in any case, faster charge aside, the dvr is great! i only wish i could add recording events remotely through the web:D )

A simple text/html editor please!

It already has opera to preview your code, and with a .txt editor this would be quite handy for some quick typing while say on the bus or train where wi-fi is not available.

My first charge took nearly a day and a half (via usb).... it was enough to make me go buy the dock(probably just as archos planned).

The newest firmware afaik is 1.7.13 if you go to the archos site they have an explanation of some of the revisions(now whether you want to upgrade or not is another story, but the openPMA hack does work with 1.7.13 i think)

Uh. To safely disconnect in windows either open up the "safely remove hardware" dialog from the start bar, or if this does not appear in usb mode(it shows up for me...) you could go to My Computer and right click on A605 and say 'eject' and then i think 'safely remove' or something. Not sure if this answers your question at all, but the archos can access ftp sites and even allows for username/login, however, as far as I can tell there is no way to upload files only download.

backup dvds easy and free i use dvddecrypter/dvdshrink it will even allow you to drop the foreign language preview and extras in order to have less compression when putting an double layer dvd onto a single layer dvd-+r full instructions at www.doom9.org if my memory serves me, if not just google it...

i suspect that since the archos encodes and plays back in divx by defualt, it is the most reliable for playback... but i havn't got the h.264 plugin so i couldnt say!

Ha! I'll second the Firefox/Download helper suggestion and the Free FLV Converter suggestion, been using both since before I had the archos. (only tried Mpeg-1 to FLV so far though, and I can't seem to convert more than one file at a time, but still, a good free utility and it also creates an .html ...
