Re: USB charging

imo, it does. especially when in USB mode because the hard drive needs power constantly around .5a current. USB can only provide .5a. It's hard to maintain enough power to keep HD and still charging the battery. But if you don't enable usb storage device, then usb slow charging is actually good for...

Re: Can't decide between Archos Android and iTouch 64GB.

One of the leading reasons I choose Archos products over Apple products in this case is that the Archos devices act as a removable HDD. Comparatively, the iPod series requires you use iTunes to "sync" and such with the device. I personally find this unacceptable, inefficient, and too restr...

Re: USB charging

I have confirmed this on my A5. USB on Computer (0.5a) -> 6 hours to charge. USB on AC to USB with 1A current (the one comes with iPhone) -> 6 hours to charge mini dock with 2A current -> 3 hours to charge Archos somehow limited the charging on USB cable to be .5a regardless how much current your s...

Re: USB charging

USB charging works fine for me when charging through the wall outlet. I agree about using standard USB current from another USB outlet, since the power is too weak and does not provide enough power to both charge and use the device at the same time (for video or internet). Wall outlets via USB work...

USB charging

So, I owned a 605 WIFI. When I used the USB power to charge it, it slowly ate away at the battery. Eventually I found out that it was providing insufficient power, and these forums advised me to get a Dock of sorts. I got a DVR dock, but it was too late, the battery was too fargone and had to be war...

Android dock

I picked up a 605 wifi back before the GPS unit came out, and I also picked up the AV dock. It was very expensive, over $100 (I think $120 after all said and done) retail. I take a look at other products like Zune and Zune HD recently and they have much more reasonably priced AV options. It also see...

Re: Would you buy the Archos Android phone if it exists?

I for one would welcome an Archos device (A5 500gig pls?) supporting cellular networks, and in turn being a real phone. I keep having to replace my phone every few years, might as well make it my all-in-one device.

Besides, it would be an improvement in battery life for me ;D

Re: Archos new models appear on the FCC website

In the manual it says: Handle the SIM card carefully (ARCHOS 5g or ARCHOS equipped with cellular wireless connectivity) ÔÇó Do not remove or try to access the sim card while your ARCHOS is transferring data. You could damage the SIM card or the device as well as lose data. ÔÇó The SIM card is fragi...

Re: Archos browser?

Don't you think since it's android it might use chrome? Considering the open platform, you might even be able to download firefox...

Opera is good too, but with the change in platform I am uncertain of it's future.

GPS on the 5 for an outsider

So, I have a 605 wifi, got it before the GPS model came out, kinda didn't see that one coming.

I havn't tried any archos GPS units, do they charge for the service or for updates? This is 605 GPS/or 5/5g/7...?

Re: Almost 2 years and still kinda disappointed

It is not the battery, it has been replaced a long time ago and I have the PVR dock to properly recharge it.

Flash cards simply cannot compete with 160 gigs, which is a major reason I went with this model in the first place.

Re: Almost 2 years and still kinda disappointed

Wow, now I really feel less inclined to purchase another Archos product. :/

Does anyone know what would have caused the HDD to fail inside 2 years? I have not been rough at all to it, just used it a lot. Currently it just crashes the unit when I try to send stuff to it, after about 200 megs or so.

What equipment is needed? I have the 160 gig model so it's the 2.5" HDD.
